Linux + Wine + Deus Ex = works

I still hold Deus Ex in high regard. That's why it was the perfect test subject for playing games under Linux with Wine. All my other experiences with Linux ended up with me getting a little frustrated and wondering why I was even bothering to do it.

My first attempt was me trying to run Knoppix 4.0 from DVD and just access the Windows partition. It loaded but had funny sound issues, crappy resolution, too dark of picture, and the kicker wouldn't go away (easy to do on the desktop but not in-game). When I altered the DeusEx.ini file to increase resolution it just crashed.

My second attempt was a light install of the new Mandriva 2005 Limited Edition (Mandrake 10.2). I had to download and install the wine rpm (which was fun and made me REALLY feel N00B but I finally made it work). I think I may have changed the DeusEx.ini to point to '/home/beeblequix/DeusEx' instead of 'Z:\DeusEx' but that would just fix it so I didn't have to have the cd in the drive. Anyway, I played it until rescuing Gunther Hermann but got my **** wasted by some baddies up the stairs. I didn't attempt a savegame but I'll try it and report back. Anyway, just posting for posterity to know that DEUS EX RUNS UNDER THE FREE WINE API!!!
