A solution to what? If auto update doen't work, then go to the websites and download the updates. How long have you had norton installed? Most only auto update for one year; they come out with new versions each year. Or you can just re-install the program. It would also help if you gave the edition of each program that you are using. If they are older versions, they are not going to be supported anymore.

Sometimes, I wonder when will anti-virus companies stop 'forcing' the users to pay for the auto-update after a year of free subscription.

Most people will not pay for the subscription and many of them will rather use AVG or Avast instead.

Adaware saw Live Up Date as a dialer or call home type application. Take it out of quaranteen and let it reinstall itself and Norton will work again. Remember, Adaware only finds suspicious items. The final call on how to treat these items is up to the user. You obviously confirmed that you didn't want Live Up Date and instructed Adaware to remove it.

I've been using Norton products for years.
If you don't want to pay the 20 or 30 bucks for a year subscription, don't. There are plenty of free alternatives.
They're not forcing you to do anything.
They are only saying if you want to continue to use our product, this is what it's going to cost.

Honestly...new viruses come out daily...and any company that doesn't expect to get paid for research and development time of thwarting these efforts makes me more nervous than throwing a few bucks out for a good product.

I've never had Ad Aware or Spybot pickup the Live update as a threat or dialer...but, it does make sense in a way....

Curious...

Reinstalling the program will not give you a "new" lease on life for updates.

Registry entries are created so the system knows when it was installed. You either buy the year of updates, purchase updated software with the updates, or uninstall it and purchase or download a new product...

You'd have to do a clean format and install of Windows if you want to reinstall the software and keep the free year intact.

Hardly worth it, considering it boils down to about 4 bucks a month...

Bass...welcome to Sysopt.
I'm curious as to why you didn't update the software definitions first (ad aware) and then scan.

These updated defs could very well say "leave this dialer" alone...etc.

Always update then scan!

Let us know how it goes!

Yes. Find it in quarantine and highlight it and follow the directions. Another option is to download it from Nortons website and reinstall. Then update the definition files. I believe I read somewhere that the update will prevent this from happening again. When I run Adaware it does not bother my live up date.

I have used both adaware and norton AV over several generations of each and never seen a problem. If you don't want to pay for nortons virus definition updates you can down load them for free at Cnet or ZD net.

http://downloads-zdnet.com.com/Norto...l?tag=lst-0-10

Note this only updates the definitions not the antivirus software.
You can sometimes find Nortons (free) on sale ($30 with a $30 rebate) at places like staples or office max, just check thei adds regularly.
Enjoy!

It looks like you downloaded Intelligent Update rather than Live Update. Wrong program.

Second or third download file on this page.

As noted...the "lite" version is prolly not needed for home use.
