    CD-RW problem

I recently installed a new CD-RW Optirite (LG) burner in a new PC

    PC Chips M810
    Duron 1.3
    40 gig Maxtor
    256 PC 133 ram
    LG DVD drive
    Optirite (LG) 52-24-52 CD-RW
    Nero 5.0

The CD-RW works fine as a CD reader but when you attempt to burn a disk, either cd to cd or from a file, it stops with the error messages "Session Fixation error or Power Calibration error". I have attempted to configure the drive via Nero directions i.e. drive speed etc.

The software cd troubleshooter does not refer to either of these error messages. Have emailed Nero with no return after 3 weeks, LG refers me to the software provider. HELP!

    What is a FIXATION ERROR?
    POWER CALIBRATION ERROR?

****, I wish there some standard nomenclature in this industry.

Yep, I agree with BpB.. A calibration error always(?) means that the laser cannot come up to the necessary power level to burn the disk. A calibration is performed each time a disk is to be burned to set up the power level needed to burn that particular disk. This is done on a special calibration track in the center of the disk... either that drive you have cannot find the calibration track, or cannot perform a calibration burn... or both.

    Fixation error??... no clue.

    Session fixation error writing lead-in

    (Session fixation error writing lead-in)

This error occurs for the same reasons as given in Power calibration area nearly full .

You have written on the CD several times and deleted it.

    Please use new CD-Rs

it is possible that the APM (Energy saving mode) causes this error.

Thanks for the web pages. I solved the problem, actually 2 diff. ones. First off the power supply was marginal and the writer put it over the edge. New larger power supply corrected initial problem...The other problem was non-compatible record disks, CDRW. The new high speed recorders seem to be really picky about quality disks even at lower record speeds.

    Session fixation Error only

I'm using and old TDK 16/10/40x and tried to burn to a 24x blank
and got the, "session fixation error" code. So I read what causes this and figured to solve it by changing the write speed to start at something lower and guess what, it work, it got the session fixation. Go figure, huh. I was tring to start at 16 and it just would not start at that speed so I started at 8.

    I had that problem...
My CD-RW worked as a reader, but had those errors
It used to work abolutely fine, the, my dad stood on it because it ejected for no reason as he was walking past
Now, it is dead as a writer.

    I have tried:
    new discs
    unplugging un nesacarry components (power)
    different types of discs
    cleaning it
removing it from my computer and putting it back in again
    Reinstalling the drivers
    Shooting the drive

    No worky
I could use it now, to get all the important data off my old pc and onto the new one, for some reason, it wont accept my new dvd burner (the BIOS wont recognise it ) Im gonna put my old HDD in my new PC now (wont network either )
