SAY IT AIN'T SO...not goodbye but...

Well, today is the saddest day that I have had in quite some time.... I knew this day would come, and I dreaded its arrival, like a turkey dreads Thanksgiving...or a fresh hamburger dreads what is about to happen as it sits in a fat man's fingers...

Yes today I lose my broadband connection.

No, no don;t worry...I will live. I won't do anything too drastic....

I am moving to save some money before I go into the Air Force in January and I think a wedding might be int he works between now and then... so I need cash and the place I am moving does not have broadband available yet.

So tonight, I must do the dastardly deed of unhooking my best friend. He has been there, rain or shine for the past 9 months. Even when i thought he had left me, he was just hiding because some imbicile had sent some bad packets.

We have been through so much together. He never said no when I asked fr information or music or when I asked it to work extra quickly so i could kill my foes...the blue team on TFC...

And he gave and gave until my coffers were full and now...i must cast him away like some cheap used gigolo...

But i will still be ere at work and at home to help and to ask my thought provoking (yeah right) questions as always... i will learn to love my friend, 56K, like I used to love him. I too cast him off when a better looking and faster friend with more to offer came around. and my trusty, but slow friend, 56K, has always beent here for me waiting in the wings for his second chance to shine.

ah well, thanks for being there for me members of sysopt, in my time of grief. I will recover. In the immprtal words of some girl 70's group I cannot remember, and also in the remade words of our funky 90's group, Cake....

I WILL SURVIVE....

For now my dear sysoptians, I bid you Adeui
To all that I have fragged on the various TFC servers, consider this your reprieve... you can play now without wondering when the masterful soldier, the cunning medic, the never-say-die heavy weapons guy, or the oh-my-god-there's-another-EMP Engineer with the name [SC^2]Gambit (me ) will pop up to end your gaming enjoyment.

Goodbye cruel world....

Terribly sorry to hear it, man. That's got to be rough.
You're joining the USAF, huh? What do you plan to do?

Best of luck to ya!

Sorry, you don't get any sympathy from me 'bout the broadband connection (28.8 modem all my life).
However, you do get my sympathy for getting married.

Hehe same here, BFlurie - well, almost. Good connection on a 56k, so it's not THAT bad. But broadband is still much better

Cool, welcome to USAF. Where are you going to be stationed first?

I know how it is. I went from 14.4 to cable to 56k and now ADSL.

Minor loss compared to your future, it will all be MUCH better real soon, (after all a wife and an airforce career will leave little time to be online) GOOD LUCK!!!

You got IN and you didn't email me?! Oh to shame, Dave, to shame! <g>

Congrats Dave on getting in the USAF!

But *sniff* I feel your pain... may time sooth the loss and pain of disconnecting your lightening-fast, always-on, mp3-SysOpt-WWW broadband connection ... well, at least you have the memories

Been here done that. I got hooked up with a wireless broadband connection in my apartment. Took them two months to get the kinks out. Was up for two months then they threw the towel in. Boo Hoo

Good luck in the USAF. Have you cut your hair yourself yet

Oh you are off to OTS first. That is Montgomery, AL smack dab in the middle of Alabama. If you go to Nav training you will go to Randolph AFB in San Antonio, TX or Pansacola NAS, FL. If you become a Communications Officer you sill spend 3.5 months at Kessler AFB in Biloxi, MS before your first assignment or shortly after you arrive at your fisrt duty station. I am a Comm Officer, so if you go that route, send me an email if you have any questions.

Thanks Radar.
If I had taken a commission while at The Citadel, I could have gone straight to my training instead of going through OTS. I had to try to get into school first though.

Won't be a problem. As long as you haven't killed anybody, you'll make it. If you had sought a commission at the Citadel, you would have been guaranteed one there. The Citadel, Texas A&M (WHOOP!!!), VMI, Norwich, and two other military universities have preferial status for commissioning. But you probably already knew that

Coincidentally I TOO lost my braidband connection this weekend. Sigh. In fact this is probably the last time I will post on my Cable modem...

I' very depressed about the whole thing which probably goes to show that the members who said that I should "get a life" might have had a point after all.

Good one Steve. I know what they do to ppl that cut their hair before they go in. I went to the Citadel where "freshman" (Knob) year, they shave everyone clean (except now they do not shave women since women are there now). Thansk for the 'good' advice.

I have not been 'officially' accepted yet (that's why I haven't emailed you with the news yet Socal...sorry'). It is pretty clear that I will get in though. I will hopefully be a Navigator (Goose from Top Gun but not as much glitz). If not I hope to go into a tech field but I have to be turned down for Nav before I can even think about that. Hopefully I won't have to...

LOL, ont he marriage thing BFlurie. I just got word that the ring comes in next week and I will post pics of our engagement. I am doing this ont he sly and am going to do it at the Biltmore house, if anyone is familiar with it. ( www.biltmore.com )

Well this is my first post on 56K. Believe it or not, this is not my system. This is a friend's. Mine does not even have a modem in it, nor do I have one that works under Win2K... Oh well.

See you guys again soon.

Thanks
Dave

BTW, no idea where I go first. I do know that I have to go to SE Alabama for three months of OTS and then 9 months of Nav school in Pensacola, if that is what I get. Scores are ok, the eye thing might be an issue since my eyes are borderline...
