Question Can AT keyboard on PS/2 kill my MoBo ?

I want to usa a national european keyboard I can not get in the US with PS/2 plug on a new motherboard (either ABIT BE6-II or SOYO 6BA+IV).

A dealer told me he had seen motherboards being killed by using an adapter to attach an AT keyboard to a PS/2 plug on an ATX MoBo. Is he just scaring me in order to sell another keyboard, or can this really happen on one of the MoBo mentioned ?

I've used several adapters but never had a problem. It is possible to damage the system by attaching or detatching PS/2 devices while the system is running.

Cool

I've never seen an adapter directly kill a modo/kb, but unplugging/pluggin when system is on will kill the little fuses on the mobo and I have seen that, several times.
Also happens if the mouse and keyboard are plugged in the wrong sockets (PS/2), seen that a few times too)

I think the guy is telling porkies over there..... I bet he only stocks "quality" (expensive?) keyboards too

Thumbs up

Thanks to all of you for your input. That issue was hanging in the back of my head for quite a while - and now it's gone in half a day. This forum is highly useful !

I have used MANY keyboard adapters over the years and NEVER have killed a keyboard OR motherboard because of them!

FYI, MANY keyboards COME WITH adapters from the maker so what the guy is telling you is bogus!
