To avoid confusion for any newbies reading this, lets call out the disclaimer that these programs will only lower your CPU temperature when its not under load....meaning, that if the CPU is in use heavily (like gaming for instance), these programs have little or no effect.
When idle however, they really do lower CPU temps by taking advantage of the halt instructions.

I used to run Rain 2.0. After a few unsuccessful o/c'ing attempts of a K62-450 on my Asus P5A, Rain stopped working. Now I have my P233 o/c'd to 300 and Rain still doesn't work :/ Ah well Guess I'll have to keep this fan blowing into my computer! I took off the extra 5 1/4 and 3 1/2 covers and have a fan blowing in...it works pretty good

Don't let these "Know It All's" discourage you from contributing to this forum. @$$holes are @$$holes, and sometimes people speak through them.

I don't think that my language crossed what are acceptable broadcasting censorships.
My point is: as Socalgal Tried to point out, a long time ago. There are no WOMEN on this site. Kiss up and make friends. Sorry I don't mean to sound sexist, or vulger.
Help people. Don't just criticize.
Sometimes plain English is necessary, in order to make a point. But don't use language to belittle others in order to make yourself look intelligent.

Back to the main subject. Does this program have to be disabled when you play games? I mean, some of the games that i play tend to lockup less if i disable all utilities other than systray and explorer.
Thanks

NO!!!!!! THEY DON'T
sorry, I got carried away. Programs such as Rain, Waterfall, CPU idle, only work when your processor is idling . When your crankin full open playin games or running programs that require the most out of your processor it { won't work }.

Prolong your PC's life ........
Does anyone have any comments or thoughts about this.
RAIN
Prolong your PC's life by running your CPU at a cooler temperature.
This utility sends HLT commands to your CPU that place certain parts
of it in suspended mode, letting it run at a cooler temperature
without sacrificing any stability. The utility works on Intel, Cyrix,
AMD, and IDT chips.

Hi NewbeJill,
I think that most people here on the forum are already using Rain!!!
But, I must say, it is a very good program.
When I still had my k6-2 up and running, I used it all the time and it worked fine!!!
It dropped the temp of my cpu with about 6 degrees, it isn't much, but more then enough.
Now I have an athlon, which isn't found by Rain 1.0, nor by version 2.0!!!!
Pim
