U.K. Police Close Park Lane Due to Suspicious Vehicle
June 29 (Bloomberg) -- U.K. police cordoned off part of Park Lane in central London today after reports of ``a suspicious vehicle.''
``I can confirm police are attending a suspicious vehicle in Park Lane,'' Metropolitan Police Service spokeswoman Helen Kennedy said in a telephone interview today. ``The road is closed from Marble Arch to Hyde Park Corner and a 200 meter cordon is in place.''
London police earlier dismantled a car bomb outside a nightclub near Piccadilly Circus, raising concern about terrorism in the capital two days after Gordon Brown replaced Tony Blair as U.K. prime minister. The bomber is still at large.
The British Broadcasting Corp. broadcast pictures showing a police robot investigating a car in Park Lane. The BBC cited unidentified police officers as saying there was a ``car of interest'' in the road that was possibly linked to the investigation of the Haymarket device.
Kennedy declined to give further details as the incident was still being investigated. ``It is not being linked at this stage with the device found in the Haymarket.''
Park Lane is a road in central London, running north from Hyde Park Corner to Marble Arch, along the eastern side of Hyde Park.
