frozen boot-up

System Manufacturer Compaq Presario Processor: AMD Sempron(tm) 3000+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.0GHz
Total Physical Memory 768.00 MB
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Woke up this a.m. and turned on the puter and....everything seemed and sounded normal for a second..then I noticed the 1st boot screen was still staring at me. It`s the black screen with compaq in red and the bottom has the (F3 for setup, Esc. for boot options ,F1 something else) irrelavent options when nothing responded. Turned off and started again...nada...over and over again same stopping point with no reactions. NEVER seen this happen b4 any help out there?? Is something overheating or failing? After an entire day and dusting it out a bit it has booted but Im scared to shut it down!

Did you clean out the power supply? Blow out all the vent holes and fans with a can of air.

Did you try pressing F3 for Setup, selecting defaults and rebooting?

Your motherboard battery may need replacing.
