I'd add more RAM - 2 x 1GB sticks instead of the 512 ones.

I agree with fishy and you should remove one of the burning drives and substitute a high-speed rom drive for installations and running games use the burner as a slave.

I think you should wait for the Intel Duo 2's to come out. Tom's hardware ran a test of them just a few days ago. The E6300 and 6400 can be had for about the same price as the cpu you have listed. Seems they can be tremendous oc'ers, on air reaching E6800 speeds (a $999 proc!). And oc'd moderately can smoke even the fastest AMD proc. I have been an AMD fan for years, but think I may change!

By definition, you're not a "fan" (short for fanatic) if you switch teams willy-nilly.

Yes - if you wait, you're better off going Core 2. If you're not willing to wait, get a Toledo core X2 at least.

Ok i know you said you dont' have a budget but that case >.< ouch man, thats $128 after rebate and s+h. Silver , oh i like silver plenty of room but no removable mobo tray and no p.s for that price. Yes its an ok case but for $100+ it needs to come with more extras.

yeah its a little expensive now I was planning on waiting until December or January to buy all the stuff by then the prices should lower by at least 30%

the case isnt too fancy but I like it because it has a chamber for the power supply in the bottom instead of in the top and a nice design to maximize airflow throughout the case

Edit: I also made an updated list of components to aim for in 2007 if I decide to go with AMD over the Intel Duo (highly unlikely unless theres a noticeable price difference vs performance)

im only going to buy the stuff that doesnt break/cant be doa from other merchents if its cheaper (IE: Case, DVDRW Drives, OS Software, Monitor) if their cheaper then newegg, reason is that newegg has the best customer service when it comes to returning doa/defective items in case any of the hardware comes broken

also ive gotten newegg to price match before if i show them the item in another high feedback competitor for far less so if they price match ill go with newegg instead

Regardless of what others tell you here or in the tech journals ( if you read any ), yeah it might be a good bet to switch to the latest and best platform out there in the Intel Core2 duos, but that CPU is killer and plenty fast and god enough to play ANY game online or other out there. I have the X2 3800 and it is just a great family of CPU's.
At the current AMD price drops...which are rediculous in a very good sort of way, they are the BEST and I mean best bet right now. regardless of hat you have now .. ( I know you have something a whole lot older and slower ), it will knock you socks off. I could have gotten a X2 4800 for the same price i paid for mine six months ago.

Yeah.. who can keep up with the runaway 'personal computer' HW field?

Since Intel is doing well with the that platfrom ( Core 2 duo ) and it gets the prize in leading all out there right now... and for the lower initial cost compared to anything else.... its a real hard choice. The advantage is obvious. FASTEST AND MOST UP TO DATE MOBO CONFIG. ) on the market.

now.. in buying terms.. common sense dictates that one who waits for the INITIAL price ceiling to drop some is going to be th wisest and get he best deal. If money is no object.. then yeah.. get the Intel Platform and Core 2 Duo Price for what you get is actually very very good there as Intel has finally got something on the market ot compete and at a fair price. ( finally )

Since there are very limited mobos to run the C2Duo family right now.., and just a few make them.. I'd pick Asus of course.

The other HW is a pick and choose thing.. ( too many options ) .. but the memeory should be eyed with intense scrutiny. get the latest ( 2 GB ) and at least DDR500+ or better , depending upon the mobo and what if calls for. ( OZC or Corsair )

Again i'm jealous... you kids..and your computers.

By the way.. NEWEGG IS GOD The only placed i would shop online and expect to get it to me on time and very RARELY any RMA's Good Hunting!

I'd reach out and research that PSU before you buy one as they have a more than acceptable failure rate. I know personally because I had one gunshot and smoke to death on me and I'm far from alone. Go Silverstone. And be ready for some massive heat from the two 7950's, they can definately warm a room.

P.S. pm me as I have a slightly used SLI rig for sale with a A8N32-SLI board and a FX55 and a whole lot of other goodies with it. I'll more than likely list it in full within the next couple of days.

Yeah I heard that the 7950's werent that much of a performance gain from 7900gt's ... I might go with two gt's instead as its probably more economical

2x eVGA 01G-P2-N592-AX Geforce 7950GX2 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Dual GPU Video Card - Retail

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130023

$506+506= $1012

2x eVGA 256-P2-N584-AR Geforce 7900GT KO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130033

$285+$285= $570

or maybe just one 7950 ? who knows

as for power supply I know but I dont know which one to get instead of that one that has high feedback ... usually enermax is a good company for power supplys ill probably go with Antec but I have to look around a little more

One word about the video card (s) OVERKILL! Just one of those would be enough.

Thats over a thousand dollars for two VC's... I know you want the best...but see how one works first . then go with two if everything else works..

Looking back over your selections.. just Super otherwise would not change a thing...

I use very good Corsair XMS memory myself. That is almost identical to what i have. ( mine are 2-3-2-6 timings ) it is awesome memory.. not one problem with it in four years or more... and I game to death....

oh.. and I suppose that if by then you decided to go with the Intel current platform, then some of that would change a bit. it porbably needs memeory with different timings.. and maybe higher than DDR400. ( have to look into that ) LOL
