    Athlon 64 3800+ vs Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 3800+

So does anyone have an idea if it'll work as promised?

From what some Marketing materials and other technical information points out.

These new Dual Core babies, should perform as a single core as far as the software is concerned about.

So if i upgrade from the single core same speed, to a dual core same speed.

Should we expect any performance increase as far as Games and Software is concerned about??

well before when no software for 64 bit was out there was still a significant increase in system performance....

    So i guess so....

    Best of CPU's and Overclocking

There are links to dual core reviews. Single core is still generally faster for gaming, since there are no multithreaded games out there.

    Hmmm.......

after reading those reviews, and comparing the information, the general concensus is definitely not for games, it seems to at most times it actually peform worse than single core CPU.

oh well... then i'll rather save up for a even faster single core

yup. The FX-57 is the flagship gaming CPU right now.

There are some game makers working on dual core enhancements, but I expect it to be a couple of years before there are a prolific amount of games that would do better with a dual core CPU of any flavor.

yeah, all that is fine, meanwhile we wait.

but don;t you guys find it a little bit Ironic, that a Dual CPU will perform actually Worse, than a single CPU, being the same core speed? a

I would have expected no performance gain, but I'd have NEVER expected it to do worse!

Just so happens the X2 3800 is one heck of an oc' performer:

Some folks have had good luck with them gaming, some haven't. There was a thread on the AMD forums awhile back about some games crashing with the dual CPU rigs. IIRC the problem seemed to be with one core running slightly slower than the other at times and the game would either freeze or crash to the desktop.

I quit reading it after a day or two but it seems I remember somebody trying to say you can assign one of the cores to the game and it will fix it. If I had the gumption I'd go find it for you but I don't have any gumption left right now.

I'll wait for dual core to develop a bit, that way the prices will be more in my line and the CPUs will be faster.

That's why you pay attention when overclocking and stability testing. Many I've seen were running prime95, but forgot to run a second instance of it at the same time. Some would test both cores with prime, but with only one instance assigning priority. That doesn't work - you need to be beating the snot out of both simultaneously to find out where your dual core will be stable at OC wise.

Personally I'm getting an X2 - but all that is on hold right now thanks to Katrina.
