Connect Surround sound to DVD player
I have a Philips DVD625 which i was attempting to plug my surround sound system into. I cannot because i have 6 plugs which must go into 1 socket called the 'coaxial' socket. Is their anyway around this problem?

The coaxial "out" on your DVD player is a digital signal that should be connected to a coaxial "in" on your surround sound receiver.

On the rear of the DVD625 you will find the "COAXIAL" connector - this a digital ouput for audio. You need to find a similiar input on your receiver/surround sound system - it may not have one depending on age/model. Refer to the user manual for your receiver to determine if it is capable of accepting a digital signal.
You can not split the digital signal from the DVD player (COAXIAL) to the 6 analog inputs on a receiver. You either have to go digital or analog... if you go analog you're only getting L/R audio.

What do you have for a "surround system"? Is it a "Home Theater In A Box", a seperate Dolby Digital/DTS receiver or just a 5.1 channel set of computer speakers?

Some DVD players do have 6 discrete analog outputs (center, sub, front l/r surround, rear l/r surround). It would preferable to go digital tho.
Again, what do you have for a surround system?

It sounds like neither have digital decoding, so you would need to get a dvd player that has the six channel output on the back to connect to your surround system.

Sure. Just make sure the new system has a coaxial input.

I live in Canada so I'm not up on prices in the UK. There are several people here from the UK that may give you that advise.
