Trafalgar Square to go green

LONDON (Reuters) - Trafalgar Square is to be covered in artificial turf and transformed into a park for a new production, English National Opera says.

The ENO will stage Puccini's "La Boheme" as a free outdoor performance at the central London landmark on July 7 as part of its latest season.

The ENO, which is also due to perform at this year's Glastonbury rock music festival, says it is hoping to reach new fans.

The aim is to recreate the atmosphere of the Glyndebourne opera, an annual festival in rural Sussex where picnicking on the lawn is an integral part of the event.

In a further bid to attract new audiences the ENO also said it had commissioned Mercury Music Prize-winning musician Talvin Singh to compose a new work combining voices and digital sound.

The piece, "Voxygen", will include musical influences from India, the Middle East and Europe as part of a series of performances celebrating different vocal styles and disciplines from around the world.

Lets just keep "You know who" off the new lawns then
