Roxio and System Restore

Ok! let me try this for the fifth time ( having problems with my explorer )....

Last night I loaded the new Easy CD and DVD Creator program on my computer and burned something for a friend and went about my business....
I had been and still do..have a few minor or major problems going on in my system OP. ( not important to this issue )and today i decided to try a system Restore to get things back to normal..and guess what...low and behold the window and calendar has only one date and entry and ..you guessed it..the Roxio program only....wiped out all other entries and so I am Fxxxked.

Along while back i had the 5.0 program and had numerous problems with the drivers and system Op. and uninstalled it and got Nero instead.
I have never had any problem withthe Nero drivers or Op. and it doesn't screww with your system restore either.....
Shame on me for doing the same mistake twice...and shame on Roxio for making a program that does this....tech. reviews should be picking up on htis and I have never seen any.....

I've always avoided Adaptec / Roxio - Nero and others are better alternatives by far. What OS you using - if it's ME (which I'm planning to get rid of on my kid's machines in the next month or so) the OS system restore has always been a dicey proposition.

Put an new 80 gig in an ME machine after Christmas, exact copy - then ME wouldn't boot with either drive (old and new) kept at it and finally did one more copy and still found only one restore point - said a prayer, used it and it worked, but I consider myself lucky.

Otherwise I'd be in your spot too....reloading the OS and all my kid's games would have taken probably 3-4 hours, then gtrabbing the saved games and other junk would have added another 2 hours or so.

Bill,...can you explain alittle about Ghost and what it does?

As I have stated ...I am pretty knowledgable user but a real novice at such things

I am ( I confess ) again failing to do a system backup like a couple of friends have advised me to.....but would only do this at the point where everything is running top notch with no problems..

Losing stuff is a pain..but the beauty of this media is you will always be able to reload and do it again.

Things like saved game folders and personal info really hurt to lose....but oh well.

It just seems that with all the programs and things we put into our system...there comes a point somewhere when re=loading windows is a good alternative....to get a totally clean system

Ghost can take an entire partition and save it as an image file. You split your drive or install another and then image your important drive/partition to a file on the other. It saves everything - including file system type and fragmentation status.

The images that you make with Ghost can be opened in Windows for extracting files/folders or even adding stuff in.

All you need is a Ghost floppy to restore - even if Windows is hosed or you're rife with viruses.

It's also great for cloning (copying) drives.
