defaulted to WEP encrypt back to default now problems

well...

I successfully hooked up my lil' wireless network at home a few weeks back. Today, I tried to encrypt it. I thought it was gonna be simple but i ran into a few problems.

I encoded the HEX keys 64bit. Had the laptop reflect the same (i choose TX key 2). Had all the IP's on auto.

I can now only connect to 'net via desktop (LAN lined into router). My wireless network on my laptop seems to be down now. LAN cannot be enabled but wireless network is happening somewhere as it can connect to the router ( SSID 'default' per manual).

I had everthing fine & dandy until i tried to get an encrypted wireless network going. I resetted all to its defaults like the manual sez. (Wep=disabled, keys= 0s, TC/ICP auto, etc...)

Desktop in WinXp Pro Laptop on WinXp Home.
Both ROuter and Wirelesscard are D-Link Airbus products...

I just wanna get the wireless network up and running in default again. I'll attempt to the encryption network when i understand it more later.

hmm, I got my laptop running by connecting a CAT 5 line directly. I decided to disconnect the cable. For some strange reason the laptop is working as if a wireless connection is made [like i can now use Internet anywhere in the house and access my desktop] BUT the No Connection to LAN icon is still there and the Dlink wirless card on the laptop isnt blinking normally (both Link & ACT lites blink together simulataneously - well, not like its busy kinda when the Link, i believe, stays on steadily and the ACT lite on Card blinks when busy) - i hope thats a good description of whats happenening

So, today, my wireless network is up but not working as advertised...well it works nonetheless.

Anyone have any inputs to how i can resolve the indication thing??
