XP1800+ TBred-A

Well, my daughter got to bed early (school night, she's 9), and I got a little bored so I started to play around with her pc...

XP1800+ TBred-A, AIUGA 0241MPM @ 1.90vcore, aircooled (AX7/YS Tech 80mm@48.5CFM), on an EPoX 8K5A2+ mobo.

We usually run it at 12.0 x 167, 1.80vcore)

nice O/C! I got the exact same CPU stepping

but not as nice a mobo...

how'd you get your vcore to 1.90V?

(L11 bridge unlock?).

With my MSI KT3Ultra2 I can only go 1921Mhz (166 x 11.5)

I looked at doing the L11 bridge unlock but my eyes aren't too good and I got shaky hands.

Looks like I'm going to have to do the pin wire wrap...

All the newer EPoX boards, since at least 8K3A+, provide vcores through 2.10... no tricks/mods needed, it's just what the mobo provides

Indeed, J, you have a lucky chip.... I've an 1800+ as well, and there are some people who can't reach 2GHz at all; I can do it on 1.875. For me, 2GHz @ 1.8v is not enough to POST. So I'd assume I'm in the middle... but perhaps my chip is getting burnt in and I might be able to push it a little higher? I'm wondering....

In fact right now I'm running 160*12.5 (2GHz) @ 1.875... replaced the AS3 and put a higher-speed nidec fan from a dead PSU on the MCX462+.... funny how it stated 12v but in the PSU it was running off 5v... at 12v it's fast but not exceedingly loud...

I've reached 2.04GHz with all the windows open once.... funny thing all that effort with 26C core temp for 40MHz more...

I'm assuming If I had the will to change the fixed resistor mod (8-KHA+) and allow 2.1vcore then I could reach 2.1 (and with no windows open)....

2GHz is fast enough for me... not...

Are you willing to vmod your board? You can get clips if your hands are shaky...

Thank you. There is a certain compulsion that seems to take over.... I'm seriously considering the purchase of one of those TBred-Bs... either an XP1700/XP1800 or an XP2100... even though I really don't need the cpu, but so many people have had outstanding success getting them to run 2.0gHz+... the 2100+s are reaching XP2700/XP2800 speeds on air, at decent vcores to boot!

I suspect

one of your next purchases will be an EPoX 8K9Axx or nForce2 (with complete cpu multiplier control of TBred-Bs through BIOS)... maybe next generation. I'm even considering that scenario.

Woohoo!

Just did the T-Bred V-mod on the socket method....much easier than squinting with a magnifying glass!

I cut up one of those telephone cord wires, took a single strand and cut it approx. 1/4" in length, bent it into a "U" shape and stuck it in the appropriate holes. Repeated it for the other pin.

I learnt that you gotta run your finger along the socket where you installed your pins in case they are sticking up. The socket won't sit flat if the jumpers aren't flush. If the CPU won't seat...don't force it into the socket! Instead push the jumpers in and ensure they are flat (it took me 7 tries to get it right)

Closed her back up and booted into the BIOS. Set the Vcore to 1.75V. Set the Multiplier at 12 X 166 and crossed my fingers....booted windows....ran Sandra for 30 mins....2004Mhz no lockup!

CPU Temp max was 45ºC! Only downside now is the motherboard temp (37ºC) yikes! :0 Gotta work on my case cooling!

I lowered my Vcore to 1.725V and still runs stable

Wow, I'm impressed with this AIUGA0241 Tbred-A

Another downside once you do the mod is the lowest Vcore I can set in the BIOS is 1.725V.

(Note I haven't run Prime95 yet)

Yeah..gotta love these chips...and to think I just walked into the store and asked for an XP 1800+ chip...knowing nothing about stepping or core revisions....sometime's its just luck of the draw!

Next step is to lower the Motherboard temp. I currently have an 80mm intake fan on the side panel blowing onto the Northbridge heatsink and just slightly higher than the AGP slot

I'm thinking of replacing it with a 120mm fan instead...plus it'll make it slightly quieter. Any suggestions?

Well, got some more out of it with ambient room temps of 32C.

Yep, I just ordered a "b" core as well -- a 2100+ -- and I'll see what I can get that to (a newegg special)

And my 8-RDA+ just came in. Installed successfully and all I'm waiting on is the CPU. Too bad I don't have a second Corsair module thanks to Tojo.

If people can reach 2.4GHz on air, then I'll se what I can do mit Wasser..... Seriously, reaching into the 3200+ - 3700+ area must definitely kick... I personally have not seen it but am hoping I will...

(Pssst. Brought down back to 1.8GHz for long term usage. 1.75v. 37C maxload with UD running.

I use two 120mm fans (one - intake bottom/front, one - exhaust top/rear) on both my Lite-On FS020 cases. I like either Sunon or YS Tech brands because they are durable. Look for models that will push more air than what you have now. I happen to use 2900 rpm fans, which are noticable but not too loud. A 120mm fan pushing 39cfm air will be much more quiet than an 80mm fan pushing 39cfm... the 120mm will spin slower, so it won't create nearly as much noise.

It continues to surprise me that most better case manufacturers continue to use 80mm case fans (sometimes dual 80mms, front and back) when 120mm fans would be more effective AND more quiet.

Papst and Panaflow are also top notch brands that have a reputation as being more quiet than most, but I just haven't used them yet.

I just installed a 92MM exhaust smartfan in my sister's case a few weeks ago. There was only a provision for an 80mm fan, but with some drilling, it worked.
