Problem with Pioneer A04

Ok I've had this thing for the longest time and to be honest was to lazy to ever try and figure out what is wrong :P but today is the day I ask for help. My Pioneer A04 only reads/writes at 1x (Ive tried a number of programs) and I'm starting to want to go a little faster heh I have a Compaq 1.53ghz with windows xp pro is there something I need to turn on/off or what I remeber someone saying something about DMA or something like that but I have no idea so if anyone can help me I would be very appreciative.

Went to Pioneers web site www.pioneerelectronics.com and the closest one that I could find that match was a DVR-AO5 and it writes a 4x, your drive may just write a 1x. Good Luck
