Capture of Video/audio

Hey guys, since you are all the guru's and I am but a simple sometimes contributor to this fine forum, I ask your HELP! (Sorry Speedo, but yes I'm yelling this time).

I just purchased a Dazzle DVC 80 to download video/audio from a VCR. The program with the hardware is VideoWave 4. It is made to run on a usb connection, and so far, no problems. The program loads drivers for imaging device, audio device, and a composite devise, all usb. The composite device in device manager has a green, not yellow ? mark in it. It says that it is working properly, but the program will not capture either video or audio. I have downloaded the latest drivers for the software/hardware, and installed them. I have followed the help advice from the web site, to the letter, and have uninstalled/reinstalled the entire program about seven times, and I still get the same indications in device manager. This has included using regedit, as per the instructions. Is there anything you guys can think of that I might do differently?

My system is a 1.2ghz AMD on a Biostar Mobo with 256mb RAM, TNT (nvidia 32mb) video card, using ME as an OS.

Thanks in advance.

Open System Information (MSINFO32.EXE) and navigate to Hardware Resources > IRQs. Click anywhere in the right pane and then press CTRL-A and then CTRL-C. You have copied that data to the clipboard. Paste that data in a reply here.

OK - we have some IRQ sharing here. Boot into BIOS setup and disable one or both Com/serial ports. If you have a USB printer, disable the LPT port too. Go to the PCI/PnP section and enable "PnP OS", "Auto" and "Reset Configuration Data". The last is important. It may be called "Clear ESCD" or NVRAM too.

Now download and install the latest VIA 4in1 drivers and USB Filter Patch:

http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2

I don't like ACPI in Win9x systems. It's unreliable and can cause problems with IRQ-sharing. This is what you have. If you still have trouble after this, I have some more radical ideas. Let me know.

Hi Bill. All of the bios changes were made, except the printer port, since it's parallel. Com 2 I disabled, and the pnp os stuff I got handled. I have already downloaded and installed both of the drivers from via, and I still have the stupid green ? on the composite device.

Would it be wise to uninstall the usb stuff again, and try re-intalling them?

Otherwise, I'm ready for the radical stuff.

Try updating the driver for the composite device. Select "Display a list" and then see what's displayed. Try another driver. Look for something that you might expect. Check the brand on the left.

No other drivers are listed. I removed the device, unplugged the usb cable and plugged it back in, and it re-intalled the drivers. Still the same. If you try to install just the drivers for that device with have disk, it can find no drivers in the updated set that was downloaded from Dazzle. It always comes back that the installed driver is the best one found.

I have checked MS, Drivers.com, and all sorts of places to get some drivers, but that's all that are out there.

Hmmmmm. POS. That's what I think!

Next?

Have you unzipped the files you downloaded to a folder? Winzip can open many .EXE files and unzip them for you. I do that with Service Packs.

It probably is a POS, but if you're stubborn enough, you can get it to work. It's easier to do than describe for sure.

try the latest windows media player to see if it is the videowave that's having trouble.
they are a west coast canadian company where i am, but unfortunately i've heard that it isn't very good software

have you check the multimedia control panel for the seetings of input and output for audio and video

I guess I don't understand quote"try the latest windows media player to see if it is the videowave that's having trouble". The only thing I can get to run in WMP is audio stuff.

After all the looking around I have done, I still think it is the "composite device" that is not operating. After Bill's suggestion to check for other drivers, I did, and there were no other drivers displayed to pick from.

But fear not. I'll keep at it.

Thanks to all for the help so far.

I once had a video cards' drivers which refused to install properly and finally was able to get it when I installed each device (4) manually as Bill mentioned , but I pointed Windows to the .inf file for each device seperately and restarted until all the devices were installed. On your driver CD , how many .inf files are in the Win ME folder , and is there any in the root. Its possible the composite usb driver (.inf) is in the root or in a usb folder , being a common driver. I looked at the updated driver pkg. and there is no composite driver , so I assume its not updated and is on the original CD.

You may try this link,
