WIN2K locked up!! HELP!!
My Win2K does not load unless in safe mode. When loading in normal mode this message appears:
***STOP: 0X0000001E (0X0000005, 0XF4355673, 0X00000000, 0X00000010)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED***
I have re-installed windows2000 at least a dozen times and it doesn't help.
I attempted to install another HDD (FAT32) to recover my data (as I can't print, save to floppies nor use my ZIP unit in safe mode) but my NTFS system doesn't recognize it.
I use a PENTIUM III 700 on PCCHIPS 748LMRT and AMIBIOS 2001 (just flashed) 256MbRAM.
Any tips?
Thanks
RM

Note that a virus can cause this. Formatting is called for. If you didn't pay for your Windows disk, throw it out - it's probably infected.

STILL IN SHADOW WIN2K LOCKUP
Although I agree that a virus can cause trouble in accessing WINDOWS:
1- I have bee using this WIN2k for two years so obviously it is NOT the WIN2k CD.
2- How come WINDOWS loads in safe mode?
3- Message error looks to me more a DOS ERROR MESSAGE than enything else.
Does anyone familiar with MSDOS has a clue?
I don't!
Thanks anyway,
RM

Might want to DL a Msconfig and start disabling start up programs to see if any of those are causing the lock up.
Or you could try pulling out all of yours cards in the box that you have, although it appears that alot of your stuff might be built in.
There maybe a couple updated drivers for your board on the pcchips web site although I could not find that exact board there.

Thanks ChubHub, still locked...
I already downloaded and flashed my AMIBIOS for the nasty 748LMRT. No idea what a MS Config download might be or where to get it. But please instruct me on how to selective check software or hardware to pinpoint the trouble. Isnīt there a downloadable free or shareware to diagnose in the whole web????
More than openning my PC guts and unplugging them all one by one I am no pro. Any other tip?
Thanks again
RM

I gave you a link to a search for KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT HANDLED. Follow the link and read the solutions.
There's nothing easy about this. You have to do some work on your end to isolate it.
When chubtub mentioned MSCONFIG, he means this:
http://www.thetechguide.com/downloads/msconfig.zip
Use that to shut down startup programs and narrow your search for the problem.

Sorry to say but basically there are two ways to do this.
1. Read and study the links, which will take time and effort. In the long run you are better off. Sadly your problem is a rather difficult one to start with.
2. Find someone to bring in the box too. Bad thing is this costs money.
