won't boot w/volcano 7+

installed volcano 7+, but now it won't boot. put the old heatsink and fan back and it boots....

any suggestions?

what sort of board are you running.. and is the volcano plugged into the board?

SearchSkillzzz 05-07-2002 07:45 AM

Alomst sounds like a power pin configuration problem.

The Volcano 7+ is very heavy. If the heat sink is vertical when you turn it on, have you tried laying the case on its side to make it horizontal...just a thought.

i wonder if the bios has a safety feature, if it doesn't recognize a proper power out for the fan it won't boot. I almost bet that the pinnout is wrong, pull up you manual and look at the voltage on the pins, make shure that they jive with the pinnout on the volcano.

I have an ABIT KR7A RAID, it is plugged in to the power supply and the rpm wire is to the board. what is the pinnout config?

SearchSkillzzz 05-07-2002 02:20 PM

I really don't know, youll have to check into it.

Jimstep 05-07-2002 05:50 PM

That's how mine is hooked up. It is almost impossible to plug the power cord in backwards, unless they shipped it that way.

Try unplugging the rpm wire...you don't need it to run.

No, no. Don't do this.
V7+ is a very powerful item - it eats 0.5A, whili some mobos can't afford such power to the fan (may be 0.35A max, for example).
Tio check this, try (only just try) unplugging your FAN and check does youer system boots normally. Then shutdown the PC. Don't let your CPU be in such temp mode longer than 1 minute, since AMD's ate very hot. If you see that your HS is becoming warm, turn off your PC.

okay this is what i did, i don't know if this did the trick but know it works.......

first i change the clip around and then plug the rpm wire to a different location and WALA, it's back up and running! temps are down and running smoothly at medium speed. tried it at high speed and it sounds like a vacuum cleaner, lol...........

Congrats: ;)

That 6000RPM is quite loud...but keeps temps low when overclocking.
