I have built my self a great stable PIII 866MHZ system with a dual boot to Win98se and Win2000 professional. On both operating systems, I have been using Norton system works to keep my system free of viruses. Every three weeks or so, I use the live update feature in Norton to keep the program up to date.
My question is should I upgrade to Norton 2002? I use my system everyday for work and fun and I have to give Norton a lot of credit for the stability I have experienced over the last 14 months.
So, do you folks think that keeping Norton 2001 up to date is good enough or is Norton 2002 going to offer better protection?
It seems to me that the only added feature of Norton 2002 is its support for windows XP.
I say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it !" If that version is running without problems, stay with it. What would concern me is, you only update every three weeks or so. My auto update will sometimes notify me of new dats daily.
With so many new viruses, you should consider updating more often.

Being winxp compatible seems to be the biggest feature of 2002.
I was so upset when I had to upgrade to 2002 after upgrading to XP. My 2001 subsciption was only 2 months into the year at the time.

I have 2001 and plan on keeping that one. I don't plan on Xp in the near future.
You say you do a live update every two or three weeks?... I do my live update every two or three days...its **** good insurance and takes a few minutes to do it, but well worth the time. You have a good tool...use it.

I believe Norton releases a standard update on EVERY wednesday, and if a critical need arises, will update daily for a moderate virus threat. My Norton is out of commission, seeing as how I'm running XP and only have NU2001. I'm now using Fix-It Utilities because it was already 32bit ready.

Thanks for the advice. I pretty much ahd made up my mind to not upgrade yet. So bascily, Norton should continue to support updates for all of 2002 and getting Norton 2002 will not keep my system safer?
In 2003 I plan to upgrade my 866MHZ system to something over 2GHZ or maybe even 3GHZ. At that time I may have XP as my main OS and it would seems like a logical time to get norton 2003.
Althought, I must say I'm extremly happy with win2k and 98se for now.
But then again, I thought Macintosh OS 7.5.1was the coolest thing in 1996. I even learned to like DOS 5.0 way back when.

I'm with the "If it ain't broke" crowd. You don't need the new Norton.Just the Virus updates.
To tell the truth I don't even use any Anti-Virus program.
Keeping your system safe is relative to your risk of exposure.
I don't do local email.I use a remote box.I don't recieve attachments to emails.I don't swap disks from any unsecure source and I don't download from sites that are not mainstream.
I use a firewall - Zonealarm Pro, that's it.
