What drivers are you using? What do you have your AGP speed and aperature size in the bios set to?

That's a shame, paladin06. I'll take it off of your hands. I'll swap you for my (working) GF2 GTS...

Hi paladin06,

In what applications does the card lock up? Only 3D (i.e. games, benchmarks) or also 2D (i.e. Windows)?

Here are some areas to investigate:

1. Driver conflict. Did you reformat hard drive and install new card fresh? If not then did you uninstall ALL files associated with last video card? Example is with nvidia card......uninstall using Windows remove feature, reboot to VGA, next use detonatordestroyer (from Guru3D) to remove remaining files, reboot, then install new drivers. The process is much more complicated for other cards like ATI and 3dfx since you need to manually remove files in Windows and in the registry.

2. Hardware conflict. What kind of system is this card running in? If it's an older system there may be a voltage issue. If it's a newer system make sure there are no IRQ conflicts.

3. Cooling. Is the card hot to the touch (memory and gpu)? If so then maybe quality control is not the best and the heatsink is not contacting the surface very well. Reseating the heatsink or RMA may be the only option here.

4. Bum card......test out the card in another computer system. If the same problems are present then the card may be bad and you need to RMA it.

Good Luck

Regards,

JeffD

Nope, I did a fresh driver install.

Nope, not an IRQ issue.

Card is cool..

Could be a bum card!!

What were your scores?

You should call nVidia (if they have a #)

I got a GEforce 3 Ti 500 and it pretty good though I got some problems 2. I think that our vid. cards (especially yours) are too advanced for some games. For many games, my vid. card isn't supported and it gives the game o.k. graph. e.g- Need For Speed 4 & 5. And max payne. That might b it though you should really call.

Hi paladin06,

If your still having problems with a fresh install, no IRQ conflicts, BIOS adjusted properly (i.e. aperture set correctly, all video caching shadowing turned off, etc.), using a solid driver version (ex. 21.83 is a good stable one) and installed drivers in proper order (ex. VIA 4-1 drivers if needed, DirectX, then video drivers) then......

-- If you can diagnose that it is indeed the video card causing the problem then it's likely a heat related issue, voltage issue or just a bad card.

Testing the card in a completely different system may aid in determining if the card is a RMA.

JeffD

What was your old vid card? When you replaced the vid card, did you change your vid card drivers to Standard VGA first? Shutdown, replace card, reboot, install new drivers?

I don't have a G4 card, but the 23.11 and 27.50 nVidia drivers run very very badly with my G3Ti200. I don't know why, so I stick with the 21.88 drivers.

Are the 27.50 drivers the ones that came with the card?

27.50 and 27.70 came with the card..

Side note: I'm new to the boards and still pretty new to all the in depthness of computers (just got back into it last xmas)

Just like paladin..I'm having big problems with my GF4 Ti 4600...I tried playing medal of honor. Thinking that I had the best card available out there today, I bumped everything to the fullest. I got MAJOR slowdowns, so I dumbed it down a bit, but I STILL got slowdown. Hell, I put on the same settings I had it on while I had my GF3 Ti 200 (it ran fine on that card) but I still got slowdown.

I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, deleting, etc. drivers over and over. I tried the detonator destroyer that Jeff suggested. Still no good.

So now I'll go into the territory that I'm unfamiliar with...
AGP speed and aperature size.

First of all, what exactly are they? Could these settings help me with my settings? And lastly..How do I check to see what these settings are on or if I want to change them?

If specs are needed..here ya go...
P4 1.7 Ghz, 640 Megs RdRAM, Win XP. And I've got the 27.50 drivers installed at the moment.

Sorry for the long post :D. But any help would be GREATLY appreciated..I just wanna get this **** card working well. Thanks in advance.

I returned my card tonight via Fed EX. More to follow!!

AGP speed is just the 1x, 2x, or 4x setting for motherboards that support this. If you have a video card that will use AGP 4x, examples: GF2 and up, then you would set the mobo's AGP to 4.
Below is a link to explain the aperture size.
