Im not sure if this is the right area for this post , but if I was going to consider a system with these specs, I would consider around $4oo to be the absolute mamimum that I would offer. What needs to be known is the manufacturer of the mobo. The SiS620 is a chipset that is sold to approx. 15 different companies for use on their own mobo's. The value of the mobo changes drastically if its from Abit or Asus as opposed to PcChips. It is a low end totaly integrated system that has minimal upgrade features. The cpu is a decent unit for everyday usage. It will give decent performance on games that are not system intensive. It all depends on what you plan to do with the machine. Have you seen the machine running? How fast do programs open/execute? IMHO, the peripherals listed are worth more than mobo/cpu combo. I hope that helps a lil bit
Good Luck http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Yea
I've seen it run with win98 and it seems very fast.
It actually handles the game " Unreal"
The graphics are not bad and it does not lock up like other video cards do with this game.
The price is a little higher but with the cpu's going faster and faster I thought it would be time to wait.
I wouldn't use it much for gamming...
Thanks........

mouse 5
128meg dimm 40
case 20

I say i would give him about 300 at most and no more... He got a cheap system if you ask me. onboard sound, onboard VGA, Christ, these thing are really worthless. If your friend is desperate for money he even sell it for 200 buck and you be surprise he also will be doing you a favor by selling it to you for much less! then to someone else.

Hey Win_98
I did my homework...
But I didn't find a 533 cpu for less than a hundred.
The WD 10gig are about the same.
The sd100 ram is about seventy five cents a meg so about a hundred too.
I guess I better study a little harder and if ya' can supply me with the site I can find the parts at this price I will consider building my own system.
Thak You for your input.....

Here ya go, tinwindow:

PriceWatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com/)

It's a great place to find all sorts of computer products for the lowest prices.

A warning, though:  Watch the shipping charges, as they can sometimes be VERY expensive. In other words, the "lowest price" isn't always the lowest price.

If you are indeed going to build your own system, it'd be wise to look locally for a monitor and the case; you should do this to:
a) save alot on shipping, and
b) it gives you local support if you ever need some help with them.

And always be sure that the company you're buying from has a good return policy in case you find that you ordered an incompatible part.

And, as always, if you need a little help, a bit of insight, some suggestions, or if you're just plain stumped, please feel free to come on back here and we'll be more than willing to help you out! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Good luck with your new computer!

HI, I think the price quotes Win98 was refering to was what most folks would pay for all that used and not as new. Also Cujordb made an excellet suggestion with pricewatch but also I think you should be compairing it to complete systems and not the indivigual parts. Cellery 533 systems new on PW are ranging from 360$ to 660$ I didnt even check for there "not exactly new" section. I do think the first price suggestion was right on at around 400$ MAX. Best of luck to you and your purchase and keep in mind that it is used no matter for how short a time. Just like an automobile even if you attempt sale without even leaving the lot it is used and you will loose a substantial amount in resale....Ohh and like Greg Brady says caviet emptor! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

tinwin, maybe you should ask your friend how much he willing to sell it for first and then ya know can agree to it or not based on that. who know he may want 500 or 400, or 300 or whatever I dont know what. he got to offer it to you first.i had a friend that was pretty fair that sold his stuff to me half price what it cost new to him so that is pretty good if you ask me. for example what kind of memory cheap generic right well you can get that about 50 bucks new so about 40 is right, if it quality 60 buck so maybe 50 dollars for that?! trust me an expensive component in your computer make a great deal! they could either drive up the price or make it cheap as dirt! like onboard modem, VGA, sound etc those thing are actually free!

All I know is he bought the memory at a computer show for more than a dollar a meg.
I know it is going cheap now but at thirty two cents a meg...?
Ya' see, my friend builds computers and I wouldn't ask him to sell it to me for less than what he paid for it, as it is new...
Any ways Thanks for the replies....I'll think it over and take everyones reply into consideration but I think I will build one myself........so if anyone has any good ideas I would surely love to hear them....
Thanks Everyone
