If i get raid mobo can i use two deferant H.D's? like wd 30gig and seagate 40gig let's say.

Yes...they are probably close enough in performance. You will be wasting the 10GB on the Seagate, but that's probably OK. Make sure that both drives have UDMA66 or 100 enabled.

One exception - if one drive is 7200RPM and the other is not, I wouldn't do it.

what i was asking was if i can use two deferant drives and that is any deferant drive, i know that to use two 7200rpm drives.

Yes you can, but it's not recommended.

In a Raid 0, the raid will only run as fast as the slowest drive. So if one drive has a sutained transfer rate of around 34.1 and the other of around 35.6... you will be loosing performace on one drive. Not only that, but you will also loose the space on the bigger drive. Also, if the access times are different, which they will be, then once again the faster drive will have to wait for the slow one. For optimum performance use two identical drives, same model, size, etc... It would also help if you buy them at the same time because there will be a better chance that they will be identical. I have 2 Quantum Fireball Plus AS 20 drives that have slightly different sizes, by around 5 meg.
