I think it is called,mplayer2.exe. OuTpaTienT 12-09-2000, 08:50 AM I wanted to do the exact same thing. My solution is a little bit of work, but it should be a long time fix. - In Explorer, goto folder options & then to the file types tab, - find your file types that are associated with the new Windoze Media Player. (shouldn't be too hard since it has a new icon.) - Double-click on one of those file types. Start with one that covers a few file extensions...for example, you might have one called "Movie File (MPEG)" that covers extensions MPG, MPE, MPEG, M1V, MPA, etc. - in the box labeled "Actions:" you should see the word Play & Open. - Double-click on Open, notice how it's pointing to the new WMPlayer.exe. 1st- highlight that line showing the path to the new wmplayer.exe and Copy (CTRL-C) it. 2nd- now hit browse and make it point to the old (better) Mplayer2.exe (it should be in the same folder with the new one.) 3rd- do the same thing for Play as you just did for Open - hit the button labeled New... - Under "Action" type Open w/New Media Player (or something to that effect) - Under "Application used..." just paste (CTRL-V) because you have the path to the new player waiting on the clipboard. - hit "OK" & "OK" to save. And now, after that you'll find movie files will use the old Media Player (mplayer2.exe) by default, however, if you right-click on a movie file you will have a menu choice of Open Play Open w/New Media Player [...& the rest of the menu...] I find having access to both old & new players very handy. Although I definitely still prefer the old mplayer2.exe by far. Repeat the entire procedure for other file types if you wish. You'll find the process is not nearly as tedious as my instructions make it out to be. mad1 12-09-2000, 09:13 AM Need some more information, new icon, on what this new icon looks like. Found three files that relate to mplayer2. Dave_H 12-09-2000, 11:19 AM Look in C:\Program files\Windows media player and see if you have the "mplayer2.exe". try clicking on it to see if it brings up the previous version. (In my case it is 6.4). If it does, you should be able to reassociate everything thru the options. View\options\formats Dave mad1 12-09-2000, 11:29 AM Dave, I have mplayer2, V6.4.07.1028.There is no .exe file.Went through View\options\formats, only one option,"select all".I am not sure as how to "reassociate" this version with the old version? Thanks OuTpaTienT 12-09-2000, 11:30 AM You're looking for things associated with Windows Media Player 7 (wmplayer.exe). That's the newest, and buggiest, version of the built-in media player. If you've upgraded to it and then don't like it and would like to use the old one again...then follow my directions. If you haven't upgraded to WMP7, then disregard this post. The icon I'm referring to is the icon for the media player. The icon for the current Media Player 7 is different than the icon for the old media player. Either I don't understand what you're asking or I'm having trouble explaining, because I don't know how else to say it. Maybe someone else can bail me out here, and give mad1 a simpler way of doing what he wants to do. Dave_H 12-09-2000, 11:43 AM I was thinking the same as you OuTpaTienT, that mad1 has both versions of media player and wants to use 6.4 again instead of 7. I was just mentioning that it may be easier to reassiociate everything thru media player it'self rather then folder options\file types Mad1- if you open MP 6.4 and go to the format list you were at right now all the "boxes" should be empty if version 7.0 is being used. If you "select all", then "apply", then all those file types should be set to open MP 6.4. If you only want to associate some of the file types, then you can go thru the list and just check off the ones you want. I'm sorry if I misunderstood you. Dave mad1 12-09-2000, 01:11 PM Sorry, I seem to not have expressed what I wanted to do clearly(my fault). I did this at work the other day to view a file, worker helped me but I cannot remember all the steps he used. His steps that I can remember, run/"C"/browse/system/windows/player,then I get lost. My player version has never been changed from the original, see previous post for version. When I checked to see what was selecte only certain ones were. Selected all as was suggested.Tried to view a movie but still in new format, I think that I might have to restart to make the change effective? SysOpt.com
