Computer is freezing and turning blue .

I am constantly getting errors and freeze ups . I do download a lot of differant stuff but lately I can't seem to be able to try any of it.Even programs that hav been on it for a while now are freezing on a regular bases.Any ideas would be appreciated thanks.

Overclocking? Heat problem(case fans and cpu hsn/fan properly seated?)? IE5.5(I found it unstable)? Have you run an up to date virus app?

that the problem with va 503+ board, I have to put up with this 24 hrs a day regardless of what cpu I have in Cyrix, AMD, ETC

Did you upgrade from 98 to ME, or did you do a clean install?

A clean install is always best since it clears out all that old rubbish that builds up.

Btw, I`m suprised that Standby doesn`t work in ME. It never ever used to work with 98 on my system (various mobo`s, cpu`s and ram). But it all works perfect now (tried all combo`s of mobo, cpu and ram too!)......

I run Innoculate IT,update it every day and it runs everytime I reboot.I don't overclock,the case is bigger and has more vent holes and new fans.Now as to the mobo,a lot of my problems started with that,the sound card and video card drivers have been dumped a couple of times,if you allow the puter to go into standby(blank screen ) there is a good chance that it will freeze that way.Recently upgraged to ME and things seem to hacve gotten worst.Any ideas would be great.

It was an upgrade from 98se.The family don't like reloading their icq numbers and bookmarks,so I tend to avoid a wipe and load.I love them myself.lol
Well if it keeps up with this crashing and freezing and blueing the next option I will use is a fresh load.Thanks for thoughts.

Don't worry about ICQ. C:\Program Files\ICQ\(version folder)
will have all your lists. Copy down all your #'s on paper as you will have to reregister first on ICQ.
Clean out ICQ of all your message archive for each individual and do a Database Converter operation. This will shrink the file sizes down a lot. Reload ICQ after fresh install of Windows, find the version # folder and replace it with the one you saved. If you don't have any backup system in place and the folder is still to big to put on a floppy, send it to yourself via E-mail and don't pick it up until you are ready.

Well it is all nice and fresh and clean,wiped and loaded.I am not sure it did any good ,My son had a little trouble with it this morning but that could have easily been something he was doing wrong.But it when it went into screensaver mode (ours was set for none)it would not come back up when mouse was moved as it used to ,had to reboot ,it has been fine since and we have turned it to never go off.It will take some time to get enough stuff back on to see if problem is remedied.
While it was in shop they found that my cpu fan was faulty and replaced it and then put in a large case fan as well,they had to swap power supplies to get a plug for the bigger fan,then they did a full install of ME and loaded in a copy of Nortons anti virus for me as well,stayed an hour and a half after shop closed to do it for me.Cost=o.I am very fortunate.It was very cold here last night and taking puter from house to shop and back I turned blue,felt like I needed to be reset.lol
