The sharing in XP is different than Win9x. Instead of just a Share password, you normally must have a valid account/password on the XP box (unless Guest is enabled without a password).
The default Share permissions is Everyone = Full Control. Which means everyone who has an account name/password on the XP computer has Full access.
An example of changing this...
On the Share, add a specific user account to the share with Full Control permissions. Then take away the everyone Full Control Access and just leave them Read access.
Now you have restricted Full Control access down to Read Only for all accounts except the account you specified.
