Just a question as a newbie: Are the rumors about XP true? I am about to purchase a new comp loaded with XP and friends tell me that XP will copy your temp files and send all your surfing info to Microsoft, and all sorts of garbage like that. I ask of the super techs and super users of this board: IS THIS TRUE? I do understand that it will register your comp with MS to prevent piracy of the system, but what about the other rumors? Any info you can give me would be helpful.
Thanx,
Sat Tech

This has really been overblown. The only real problem with required activation is the minor inconvenience it causes if you upgrade often. Other than that, it's nothing to worry about.

Even if that was true, which I highly doubt..Who cares if some bloke at MS knows you frequent porn sites?
And if you really have a problem with it, go out and find a copy of XP Corporate...However, I do think you need to stop listening to people sometimes...these are the sames idiots who thought planes were gonna start falling from the sky during y2k...

I just told my personal firewall software not to let windows media player communicate with the network. I would think that would work with the new media player in XP. (It stops it from automatically downloading codecs though, but thats ok, I'm a big kid and can download them myself).
