Hello,

I want to make out of my computer a VDR (video disc recorder), but I'm still looking for the proper TV-card with a hardware encoding MPEG-2 chip.

There's this Hauppauge WinTV PVR, but it can't be programmed (like you do on a normal VCR (set time, date, etc)). Now there's the Creative Video Blaster Digital VCR, this one has excactly what I'm looking for, the only problem is: it's NTSC only... I live in The Netherlands and we have here PAL.

As far as I know there isn't a PCI-card like the one I'm looking for, but if you think I'm wrong (I hope so), please say it.

I think the Voodoo 3500 (which can be picked up from auction sites) has a video recorder function. I have 2 of these cards and the box definitely states about using your hard disk as a video recorder. Whether you have the timer, I don't know.

Why would you want to use a hard disk for a Video recorder anyway, even MPEG will eat up the space pretty quickly

(You can't get this card in PCI as far as I'm aware, but if your current AGP card sucks, this would make a not bad replacement).

Well, I love my current AGP-card... And I've enough discspace for MPEG-2, no problem. I know that the Voodoo 3500 hasn't a timer, but thanks anyway.

I have a Gainward GeForce3 with VIVO. It does really good video capture @640x480 if you have a good computer. I haven't used the TV out so I don't know much about that. It does support NTSC and PAL, I checked before I posted. I don't know if it can be programmed. If you have an older AGP card, you could upgrade and put in this GF3. They also have a few other cards that be be something like you're looking for. www.gainward.com
