With Intel itself posting lowered expectations, I'm not sure it can. After all, we know Gateway is citing low demand, HP is, at best, on target, and Micron is also having some trouble, as is Apple. In general, the Home PC market (where AMD has the vast majority of their market share) is seen to be slowing.

I can only think of one reason why the above suppliers (minus Apple) would be posting losses, and that's if only the INTEL side of their business was slowing. I can't see that, however, as it would show a much greater performance delta between Intel and AMD than has ever existed before.

So what do ya'll think?

In the 3rd Quarter end, I read a article about PC components and demand.

It said the only component that supply was outstripped by demand was the CPU's.

That don't sound TOO right to me as the CPU market has remained stable.

HD's on the other hand have risen somewhat, memory,, well we ALL know that one.

Motherboards seem stable also.

I think AMD is gonna be OK unless the factories in Germany and the New one in Texas have went too far over budget.

I'm curious as to why in the world anyone would put a factory in Germany.

Granted they have by far the finest craftsmen in the world, and the workers there have a say in the pay of their superiors,
Just the wage rate is so very high.

Maybe the difficulty of manufacture outweighs the downside of High compensation.

I think industry-wide there have been changes. The last couple years we have seen a boom of great PC system deals and everybody swarmed to get them. I believe now the swarming is coming to an end and will remain slow for a year or two; until all those systems get too (relatively) slow. I believe we will see an upswing in replacement and upgrade parts sales during this time and will also see prices stabilize. To support my opinion: tech stocks have been taking a beating for the past few months due to slowing sales (and of course Intels misfortunes). AMD is poised to run away with the market if they can keep producing products with few flaws and keeping on schedule.

Any thoughts?

What will happen, and I think soon, is there will be the world's greatest game or program come out and the best stuff we have now, will only meet the minimal resource requirements. The few that can use it will talk it up good, everyone will want it, and the race will start again.

It wasn't to too long ago that all the guru's claimed there would never be a need for more then 1MB of RAM in a personal PC http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif They also said you would never have a need for a hard drive bigger than 20 MB http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Now we have DDR RAM, Main Boards, etc

I think it's just slowing down a bit and will pick back up again in a few months!

Just had to post on Richard C's notice of where AMD is putting their plants.....

Did you ever notice all of Intel's chips are manufactured in some of the poorest and industry/politically "Indopolitically?" corrupt countries? As in places with poor workers and incredible fat cat higherarchy. Sorry if my freedom flag fell out of the closet but it is one of the reasons I don't like Intel. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Yes I notice that, I've seen singapore, and malaysia. Really weird place ya know. Never any place well known like Japan, USA, etc. The probably don't like to pay us American to manufacture them or maybe they just cheap sucker who like pay someone almost nothing to make the chip and then charge us hell of alot for their chips here and Japan.
