I've just finished building a computer and I've got it to boot up but the screen won't come on yet the fan on the graphic card is spinning.

Could it be motherboard prob? I've tried a new card, another screen and even changed the motherboard with a different pc and it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

Thanks for any help you can give. :)

Im sorta a bit lost here on your post, so i will need you to clarify your problem. Your stating that the system powers up with no video.

Okay for starters......
The machine will not post if there is no video detected.

#1 pull the video card out and reseat it. Make sure that you see no gold connectors sticking out of the slot.
#2 pull the memory out and reseat it. Make sure that it clicks and locks in place with the tab connectors.
#3 Make sure that the cpu and heatsink are connected properly. Plus double check to make sure the cpu fan is working.

Are there any beep codes when the system is turned on?
Is it an amd or intel?
How many watts is your power supply?
What motherboard/cpu?

There's to many questions? To help narrow your problem down.....
Please post your system specs so we know whatcha got and can better troubleshoot your problem.

ok its a 1ghz duron processor with 256mb sdram, gigabyte ga 71xeh mobo with an agp graphics card which i later replaced with a pci graphics card but still no luck.

the heatsink fan spins when the power is on, the fan on the graphics card spins but there are no beeps, and no signal is being sent to the screen.

i swapped the 300watt power unit with another 300watt power unit but that hasn't made any difference. i also changed the ram with another machine and also the graphics but still no use.

its strange as now I have two machines with the same problem, the original one I built using the similar specs which I used to try parts from the new one I have just built but can't get up and running.

Hope this helps. Thanks for your help.

Hmmmm That's interesting!
Are the parts you put in your other system still in that system. If so i would recommend swapping one piece at a time with the parts that were in the system before you started swapping parts. That way you can go by process of elimination. That way you should find out what piece of hardware is the culprit. Give that a try and see if you can get your other system back online.....

Post back and let us know what's happening......

ok thanx for your advice I will work on that tonight. Hopefully it is something like a ram problem rather than processor. Will let you know how it goes.

Thanks.

dear mikey.dude

what kind of vga r u using, is it an agp or its a pci,did the agp worked because most of the new boards which come with an agp slot have agp card as the primary display.u will have to use an agp card, which u can get from any friend for a few minutes and then u can then change the settings for the display card which is:-

BIOS SETUP >>> INTEGRATED PERHIPALS >>> Int Display First (AGP/PCI)

if it didnt worked post it here, i will try my best...

PS. Pls check ur monitor2cpu cable, is it working?

I have to disagree with you spoilt.....
Whether the setting is set for agp/pci it will default to whatever slot the motherboard picks up on the post. If im wrong im wrong, but i have a good guess that im right on this one.

Any takers care to enlighten us on this situation?

I've tried both a working agp and pci video card and they don't work on the board but I know they are working fine.

The monitor2cpu cable is also fine.

I will send one the boards back to the suppliers who will test it, as well as the ram and processor connected for damages to it.

I'll let you know the problems when I hear from them.

Cheers!

Did you get your other system back online? With everything that you swapped into the new system. Im guessing that something is wrong with the motherboard/cpu. You swapped everything but those two pieces of hardware. That's my buest guess.....

Let us know what happens......

No I have two systems with the same problem, unfortunately.

And all I done was swapped the complete mobo with the same processor and ram as was originally on it so the damage must have been caused during swapping the mobos or putting the old mobo into the new case.

Strange. I'll let all you guys know.
