I put together a computer about a year ago and the only thing I didn't upgrade was the monitor which was a Gateway EV700. Just yesterday I purchased a Samsung 955 DF after hearing many good things about it. I also dl'ed the newest drivers (unofficial 9016) for my radeon and bumped my ram upto 384.
Let me tell you this monitor is excellent, I popped in MOH:AA and just for the hell of it I put everything on max (all details, shadows, etc.) and put it on 1600*1200 and it looked bearutiful. Not to mention that my framerate was as high as 70 averaged 40 and only dipped to the 10's when I threw a few grenades! I couldn't believe it, not after playing in 1024*768 on the EV700. And my 3d Mark 2k1 SE score was only 3398. Here I was thinking that it was already time to upgrade and I started looking around.
Anyway, you can see that I'm psyched to know that I don't need to upgrade my comp for at least another year. BTW, how many of you enjoy gaming in 1600*1200?
UPDATE:
the fps were inside a bunker, once I got outside they went down to ~20, oh well time to upgrade the vid card.

I would, but my vid card can't handle it. I start off with a frame of ten! I get by with 1280*960 which gives a decent fr.

1600x1200 looks great. I play all the games that support that resolution. Don't have to worry about anti-aliasing as much, either.

What should I do to see the framerate in MOH: AA ??
I've tried to include "seta cg_drawFPS 1" in the cfg files under
\MOHAA\main\configs\unnamedsoldier.cfg &
\MOHAA\main\newconfig.cfg
(these r the only 2 cfg files I can find)
but without success. I've tried this with wolfenstein and it worked.
Help please.

hmmm.. what's the size of the monitor needed to play in that resolution?? i thought that any monitors forced to run at higher resolutions surpported will be dead quite soon

Usually 19" or above.

I used to run at 1600*1024, but my kyro card just can't handle it that well. In MOH:AA I run at 1024 on my 19". Looks great and the only slow down I ever got was with the plane explosions earlier on.

I play RTCW and most other games that allow at 1600x1200 on my 17" Iilyama - 1.4GB Athlon ati Rad8500, and its great.
MOHAA on the other hand I have to run at 1280x1024, it does run at 1600x1200 but is not totally smooth

I only have a 15 inch LCD, 1280 X 768 is the max it supports. with K2-500 and TNT2 32 MB, it only give decent fr under 800 x 600 while playing Half-Life.
:( pity, but I'm getting a P4 soon and Radeon 8500

I don't play at 1600x1200, instead I like 1024x768 and 2x FSAA SmoothVision thanks to my trusty Radeon 8500 and frame rates are smooth as hell in MOH:AA. Looks just as good as 1600x1200 but not at the same cost of performance.

There's no way it could look as good, InnovaZero. I think you'll find you might have a monitor not up to par if it does, because any additional detail level possible will make it look better--no if's, and's or but's.
Just out of curiosity, what kind of monitor do you use?
I would agree with you if you were to say that a user could reach the best compromise of performance and grfx beauty at a mid range resolultion; I myself play games between 8x600 and 1280 settings.
However, if I had a good system, there would be no hesitation on my part to spank out the high resolution when I game.
It's like the difference between DVD and VHS, honestly.

I don't think you have seen ATI's Smoothvision in motion, trust me I'll switch between 1024x768 2x FSAA and 1600x1200 no FSAA and there is little difference except 1600x1200 wants more out of the machine.
My Monitor is a Sony 19" Flat Screen

You would need a microscope to read chat text in multiplayer @ 1600x1200. I find anything much over 1K to be overkill in that respect.
If I tried, I could get about 10 FPS from my "old" GF2 GTS @1600x1200.

LoL I went from a p2 350 with a voodoo 2 to a Athlon XP with a Radeon 8500.
Imagine the look on my face when I started my new one up :D
We talking a 5000% increase in speed and performance, not to mention looks and image quality both in 2d and 3d.

would a 15" LCD with max res of 1028 x 768 be gone if it was forced to run at 1600 x 1200?
I have a gf3 and only the LCD mon is keepin me from running high res

I don't think you can "force" it too, and if you could you would prob. kill the monitor.
You can still use FSAA though, I recommend 1024x768 2x FSAA and maybe even 4x FSAA depending on game. Better yet use the Quinnex(sp) mode with looks near 4x FSAA but with only 2x Performance hit, only bad thing with Nvidia's FSAA is that it reduced texture quality at far distances. That is why I love ATI's Smoothvision ;)

I play a few at that res.I have a 19' mon. and that is as high as it goes.Don't remember the refresh rate at that res though but it doesn't hurt my eyes or anything.I play Alice,Undying,Madden NFL 2001.32 bit color aswell.I always leave of AA at these higher levels.I don't know the
framerates but they seem smooth enough.

next up 21inch and 1600x1200 STANDARD! :D
