What cpu are you running? I have a 1.4Ghz Athlon that runs at 51C full load.
The case temp is high. My case temps are 23C. I have 5 case fans to keep the air flowing inside the case.

I have a gigabyte mobo ga 7vtxh with amd 1800+xp. Cpu fan is a volcano 5. I have have a antec case order with 4 case fan .Should I turn it off till I get that.
Wo, i have a 1.3ghz AMD and it runs at 48C at full load, the case temp is about 30C (I know, its hot) then. And at idle the cpu is at about 41-42C and case around 24C. Hmms, it all depends on what HSF and other fans you are using.

He said the case is open though!I think the case temp. is way too high for the case when open. What is your ambient temp.?Fans are less important when the case is open as this reduces the dead air spots that you have with assembled case.Have you ever flashed the bios. That may effect it!You are near the max temp. a board can run without burning up.This can't be right on a fac. clocked system with the case open. Are you o'clocking the bus? That will heat up the northbridge alot but most newer boards will go 33mhz overspec. without added northbridge cooling.Something is fishy here and I dont think it is your temps. But then I could be wrong-wouldn't be the first time.Just my thoughts on it.:D

Did you build the system? One thing you might check is for how the Heatsink is contacting the chip. Are you using a thermal pad or grease? If the HSF isn't making solid contact it could cause your temps to be that high.
I just replaced the standard HSF on my TB 1.4 with a Volcano 7 and some Arctic Silver 3. My temps are now 10C cooler.:D

I have a MSI K7T Pro 2, and the temps i get in Windows (using PcAlert III) are different to the ones in Bios, by about 5 oc.
Anyone any ideas / or anyone else's the same?
