Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : How to replace PIII600E heatsink with a ORB ?
Hi guys...
I have bought 2 ORB from 3D Cool (http://www.3dcool.com) for my dual PIII 600E (slot 1).
I have never done it before and I want some advice (URL welcome !) on how to remove the heatsink/fan safely (without destroying the CPU).
I did have a look at the CPU cartridge but I have no idea on how to proceed...
Any suggestions/links welcome
Thanks

Stan, The easiest way I found to remove the stock heatsink and fan from the newer style slot 1 cpu's is the "case screw" way. Here is a link to pic's and write up that will help explain it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I've done this many time's and whats nice when doing it this way you can save the original heatsink and fan and replace them if you ever need to http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Hey man ! Thanks a ton for the links...
That is much more helpful than the technical info I found from Intel.
Thanks
Stan
And look at what (http://www.coolerguys.com/HowTo/Secorb/index.htm) I've just found... exactly what I will be doing tonight!!!
Can't wait !

Let me know how you like it Stan. I kinda like it but I still think my old trusty P3-125 Alpha monster of a heatsink might still do a better job than the Gorb. but I will admit I like the looks of that thing http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
OK... I did it !!
I installed my 2 Golden ORB (thanks for the link http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif )
I installed the new PC133 SDRAM (from Crucial), but the only thing I get when I boot the PC is a long continuous beep... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif
I hope I did not damage one on my CPUs.
Maybe it is the RAM ?
Will test later...
Stan
Right... we have lift-off...
PC posted OK at 2 x 797MHz...
I need to put back the HD's and see if Windows (ME and 2000) loads OK...
Will update soon....
