trouble

Hi,
I am trying to find an answer to a question that has made me curious.

When running disk defrag it keeps stopping and restarting saying the drives contents have changed.

Now all that is running at the time is systray and explorer(everything else shut down via control-alt-delete).
As soon as the scan was complete I ran it again and sure enough the same message came up and a few clusters were not in their right place yet again.

I repeated this 3 or 4 times and everytime the same thing happened.

Is this a normal thing to happen ?If so what programme could it be writting to the HDD?

Any info about this would be muchly appreciated.

Cheers, Fiddler :D

Do you have a network card? It checks to see if there is a network conection every once and a while. This could cause it.

Turn off system restore. Didn't even think of you being on ME. It won't show on a three finger page.

What happens is system restore will scan your drive then write your current config to its files. Then defrag restarts.

I have the same problem and I am running Windows ME. What I do is start up the computer in Safe Mode and run Defrag. It works great then.
