Thanks Godfodda 02-24-2002, 04:58 PM Sounds like you might be using the stock heat sink / fan combo. A better one would lower your temps. Too hot depends on what you're doing. I try to keep everything at or below 40C. A different case may help reduce case temps which also helps reduce CPU temps. More case fans help with that, too. There are some better HSFs to be had, but if you don't like noise, the choices become more limited. I have good results on one of my Tbirds with a Dr Thermal TI-V77 and it's not super loud. Decent price, too. Jimstep 02-24-2002, 06:31 PM Seems too hot for an XP cpu. I have a Athlon 1.4Ghz Thunderbird that runs at 51ºC at full load. You might check your case temps also. Fans can only cool the processor down to a certain point. I have five case fans in my case. rickdcableone 02-24-2002, 06:50 PM jimstep The case is at 48degC do you think more fans or bigger case or both it has a stock heatsink and fan should i change it to? cpu is at 60 should i be worried? wizard101uk 02-24-2002, 08:02 PM I have a AMD ATHLON 1.33GHz in one of my systems, and temperature is between 46 and 57 degrees. I think it's really down to how cool you want it to be, I'm very happy running my ATHLON at the temps I have stated. Considering how hot your case is, the CPU temp isn't too bad. I'm guessing the only case fan is the PSU fan? Add another intake and exhaust. That should do wonders. Jimstep 02-25-2002, 07:10 PM I agree. I have five case fans. Three in front blowing air into the case and 2 in the rear pushing air out of the case. Plus the p/s fan makes six fans. My case temp is around 23C. [KMAC] STAN 02-27-2002, 10:54 AM I have a Duron 700 which was running at 70deg C - 45dec C in the case! (I only checked after I had got an Athlon 1400, and started to worry about temperatures) The Duron was my server which was on 24/7, no case fans and a naff orb fan, however it was totally stable - I have since added a case fan and bigger/ better heatsink - much cooler! However, knowing they can survive those sort of temperatures has relaxed me somewhat, and I don't care that my Athlon runs at 49-59deg - I have used Delta fans and hard-drive coolers and loads of case fans, but it is so noisy. I have taken most out now or disconnected them. bewick1 02-27-2002, 02:15 PM I have an Athlon 1.2 T/bird which runs at between 20C and 35C. Sometimes it runs @ even less than system temperature. Didn't do anything special. Just the original pad on the h/s. I actually wonder if the VIAhm programme is performing correctly. Got worried when I built an Athlon 950 for a nephew and it ran at at about 40-45C. I'd added the thermal paste. A case fan made virtually no difference. but then I found people talking about 60C being OK so I stopped worrying. gibsinep 02-27-2002, 08:26 PM bewick1 you may want to get another program or check what the BIOS says. Those temps are rally low for nothing special. T-brid 1.33 32C-35C A little somthing special. Jimstep 02-28-2002, 07:12 PM bewick1: Your cpu temps are extraordinarily low. Not that I don't believe you, but the Thunderbirds run pretty hot. Or you have a h/s fan combo that is capable of cooling to those temps. SysOpt.com
