I have an ASUS P3BF Motherboard running a 500MHz Celeron. I want to increase the CPU speed. The ASUS site says that the (slot-1) board can handle only Pentium processors upto 800MHz./100MHz bus speed.
Is there some difference with the faster PIII's that won't allow them to run..ie. the core voltage on the ASUS P3BF only goes as low as 2.0 V.
I don't know if when the ASUS article was posted that 800MHz was the fastest PIII they made... so that was the fastest they listed.
The ASUS site makes it sound like I MUSTuse a FCPGA socket PIII and use a S370 adapter card. Is this correct.
Thanks.

Looks like the latest BIOS update offered here (http://download.asus.com.tw/mb_dl_menu.asp) shows support for up to an 850.

It would be cheaper for you to get a FCPGA chip and a slotket. Those slot 1 chips are much more expensive.

its supports up to 1ghz now and 2.0 is not the lowest voltage anymore...1.65 is :P

The latest bios is Ver. 1008 Beta 4

There was never a 1007 Final in between and a final version of 1008 is still questionable. Ive asked Asus in the past and they said they would be but wouldnt give any kind of time period.

The addy below is where you can D/L the 1008 Beta 4 bios..its on the Asus Dutch site :P
