Hi everyone!
I own a PIII 500 Katmai, an ASUS P2-99 motherboard (440ZX chipset), 256 Mb PC133 RAM and a Riva TNT2 m64.
I have overclocked it to 600 Mhz (120 Mhz FSB) an right now it's stable. I have increased the voltage from 2 to 2.15 v (I'm not sure about this, because the board has a jumper setting called 'test', wich I read it was 2.15). I have also increased the voltage supplied to the bus. It isn't stable otherwise.
I wold like to overclock to 133 Mhz FSB, but the system crashes after 5 minutes at 124.
I've heard TNTs don't like overclock.
has anyone have any ideas?
any experience with similar setup?
Will I be able to overclock more than 120 Mhz FSB?
Thank's to everyone. :)

My experience has been that crashes after Windows successfully loads are attributable to CPU problems. You don't mention your HSF or temps. That may be part of the problem, too.

Well,
it is prolly yer cpu that is the problem, since you have a katmai.
I've heard more then several times that Katmais are not that great an overclocker, due to the off-die cache, hich will run at half the cpu speed.
So, at default it runs 250Mhz, but if ya clock yer cpu to 600, it'll run 300Mhz, it might not be able to handle that.
Better check the chips, what ns rating they have.

Well, thank you for your time
The temperature of the CPU at 500 Mhz full load is 45º. At 600 Mhz full load the temperature is 53º.
But when I put the FSB at 124 and the system crashes (not full load) the temperature is about 48º. Thie makes me think is not a temperature problem, but a voltage problem. What do you think?
I use a standard heatsink/fan.
How should I know what ns my cache has?
I've seen people in overclock databases push Katmai 500s much higher than me :( One even had the same motherboard.
Could it be my graphics card?
About the motherboard: I've read the 440ZX is almost like the 440BX except for the amount of memory that can hold and the suport of ECC memory. The BX chipset has no problems to reach 133 Mhz FSB. Is it the same for 440ZX????
Thank you again.

I gotta agree with Ultima. I think its the cpu. Why? Because I have a Katmai PIII-500 as well and the most I've ever been able to overclock was to a 115fsb for 575MHz. I can hit 600MHz but its not stable. I could try to implement more exotic cooling but I don't really see it being worth it anymore. I've also got a Diamond TNT2 Ultra overclocked as well and I can say that the video card is not likely to be your limiting factor.

The SECC2 type are not the best at over clock, i was try for a year to oc 450mhz pass 504mhz didn't work i taken katmai and now at 558mhz(124x4.5, can't at 133mhz and i do have 133ram).

Hi,
I tried to disable the L2 caché to test if it was a limiting factor, but at 124 FSB it locks anyway.
I think it's a voltage problem.
Anyone know if there's a voltage tweak I can apply to my motherboard (ASUS P2-99)?
Thank you.
