Alta Vista quits free ISP service

Another good free internet provider is going belly up.

First WorldSpy, then FreeWWWeb, then FreeiNet now Alta Vista-->>

We regret to inform you that AltaVista's free Internet access will terminate service on December 10th. AltaVista has been forced to discontinue this offering because the company who provided the service and telecommunications infrastructure for it, 1stUp Corp., is going out of business. This change will not affect the availability of our search services at AltaVista.com

AltaVista thoroughly investigated finding another supplier to provide a free Internet access service. However, we were unable to find a company that was able to meet the needs of our Members

i JUST turned the thing on to find the same enlightening message. NOW I have to pay for my access. I was with Freewwweb, Bluelight, and alta vista. Great---I get to pay for internet access!

Why not give StartFree.com a try?

I'm using them now, and they are pretty good.

Bad thing about free internet services is that they go two routes:

Be like Netzero and Juno and inundate you with ads or

Be like altavista and freewwweb, get bought out by Netzero and Juno (or go out of business)

This is sort of like the Napster thing, how long is it gonna last before it dies....

Good thing don't last forever, do they? oh well look like I better stick to pay, these free service isn't so convenient, it more trouble then it worth especially the email service are just plain horrible. I been with MSN for 2 year so far and thought about canceling it sometime next year but I changed my mind. There is no such thing as a free meal is there, oh well it just too good to be true anyway either that it just doesn't last. I think I try to sign on free altavista a few month ago but keep getting error 404 message.

I use exite's free service. They are powered by 1stup also. Hmmmmmm. They havent sent anything out about shutting down.

Oh well. I only use the free stuff when i am on the road to keep in touch with the whiff. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
