OK here's the story...

AMB Athlon TB 1.4 ghz Socket A Motherboard GA-7DXR AMD761+686B Chipset w/latest Bios flash F8 ... 512 DDR Ram yada..yada

Had a PNY Nvidia Geforce 2MX 400 64 AGP Video Card....

That quit working either when I installed W2K from ME ( after a complete reformat) or upon a later reboot. Anyway, very close to the same time.

So, I thought video card died and called Best Buy tech support who said yea it probably died as sometimes these things happen.

Well today I exchange it for a Gforce2 Ti 64MBDDR 175MHz,256GPU and guess what...

Same problem. My computer will not boot up or maybe it does but all I get is a monitor that blinks. If I unplug from video card I get the no signal message on the monitor.Took card out, did the eraser trick on the fingers and put back in AGP slot, same results.

OK, Here's my bios info...

All default values.

Advance Chipset

Top performance....disabled
AGP Aperature Size...64
AGP FastWrite... Enabled
AGP mode... 4X
AGP always compensate...Enabled
SDRAM ECC Setting...Disabled
DRAM Timing stting by...Auto

Integrated Peripherals

VGA Boot from...AGP

My MB manual describes my AGP slot as follows:

1 universal AGP Pro slot 4X/2X (1.5V/3.3V) device support

My video card book says my MB must supply adequate voltage. The AGP2.0 specs are 6A at 3.3 V for AGP socket and 2A at 5.0V for the AGP memory

Am I ok here? I wonder if changing my AGP mode from 4X to 2X will help?

In the meantime I am using an old PCI video card

Any ideas here for the W2K rookie?
:confused

I was have problems with the Athlon 1500+, a diff MB, and the card was the same, only with 32MB.

First off, this is a brand new system that I built. Second, I had all kinds of strange video problems after installing Win XP and the system overall seemed very unstable. I downloaded what I thought was the latest driver for the card. I asked questions here about the settings like you. I fiddled with some of the bios video settings.

So I went into my MB bios, changed all my settings to default. I cleared the CMOS via a jumper on the MB then I booted up. I went back into my MB bios and set the CPU, etc, etc. Rebooted, and suddenly my system was rock solid, but I still had some video lag.

Being a Privacy issues freak, I never believed in letting any program auto update. But I was desperate, so I went ahead and let Windows do it. To my surprise, there was a later version of my Video Card driver available!! Thats odd, I DL the last one right from Nvidia's own site. So I let XP Download it. Bam! Everything is working much better!! Now, I just have some fine tuning.

I figured I would just let you know what I did. Not really a direct answer to your questions, but we have similiar systems. You are using a different chipset on the MB. Take it for what is worth. I hope it helps. I was ready to toss my new computer right through the window!!

BTW, from what I have learned in the past day or so (rookie here), the settings look good.

Interesting...found the jumper to clear the cmos. Do I turn off puter, change pin and reboot?

I assume then I enter bios and change to all defaults correct?

Also, I wonder if it would hurt if I left my pci video card in till it finds my AGP one?
