Hi. I have just got my hands on a DVD-8300 Real Magic card-but I can't get the S-Video out to display a picture on my TV screen. I bought a Scart block with Audio (red and white) and video (yellow). The cable I have is a two lead phono cable (with red and white connectors). I realise this is intended for audio but I thought you could use it for video as well. I have one of the leads (white one) connected from the s-video out to the video in on the scart block (the scart block is definately switched to In). Do I need an actual Yellow coloured S-Video cable-is this why I get no picture? I get interference when I wiggle the connector do I know they make contact etc.
Any thoughts would be deeply appreciated (even if they include calling me a fool!) Cheers!:)

I'm just a bit confused. You are correct that there is no difference between the different colored cables, they are simply coded so you can tell them apart.
However, the confusion starts when you mention S-video. In no way is a composite cable compatible with the S-video port. I have no clue how you've plugged it in, or expected it to work. The S-video port is a specialized port with seven pins, and looks very much like the PS/2 connector for your mouse or keyboard.
If your television does not have an S-video input, you'll need to get a convertor.

OK. the problem is did u get a scart>> video cable with your card. I duuno if someone else had this problem . but I tried a scart cable from an ATI card on an Nvidia card and it didn't send the video.
apprantly there's different standards for it.
not like different standards. but there's an older standard and a newer revision. so try and see if u can find something like that

Cheers for your responces. I confuse even myself sometimes! The phono connector in the back of the Real Magic card is in fact the 5.1 channel sound output! The video out is via a 7 pin mini din. The question I have is how can I make it work. The parts I have are these:
I have got hold of a plug/converter of some description made by Dell and supplied with units such as the GX150. It consists of a male 7pin plug on the end, that plugs into the S Video out on the Real Magic Card, and a block which has three connectors. One Female 4 pin S Video, 1 Yellow coloured Phono connector and one black coloured phono connector. (These look identical to the connectors on the back of a scart block).
I have a Scart block (Video, Audio L+R).
I have a two phono lead cable (Red + White)-but I just want video through this to the scart on the back of my TV (TV has only Scart and RF inputs).
I have done a little bit of research on the net and have learned that S Video has only 4 main pins to make it work so do you think I am right in asssuming that to make this connector I have work I need BOTH of my phono leads (Red + White) plugged into the Yellow and Black phono connectors of my S Video converter and then somehow convert them to ONE phono plug at the other end to connect into my SCART block?
I know these questions sound kind of lame-but I've already spent £10 on cables etc and it is annoying to by a cable or connector or something only for it to not work, so if any one has any ideas about this it would be great to hear them. I'm sure I'll get it to work eventually, I'm just finding it difficult to know exactly what connectors to use (**** I wish my tele had S Video in, this'd be so much simpler!!) Thanks!

your telly aint got s-video  well bloddy hell!!!
use an s-video cable to go from pc card s-video to block s-video
use an RCA phono cable (any colour) to go from yellow phono jack on block to yellow phono jack on scart. this is video
use an RCA phono cable (any colour) to go from black phono jack on on block to either red or white phono jack on scart (audio)
make sure scart is plugged in good at back of TV (or wherever it plugs in)
switch to "in" position
set TV to correct channel? (not sure how this scart thing works)
put movie in pc
turn telly on
if u dont see a picture ur screwed.
seriously it could be bad pc card
bad block
bad scart thingy
bad cables
good luck ole chap!!! your gonna need it:D

what is the make/brand of tv - i've never heard of a tv with a "scart" type connection my understanding was they were for "little" things you couldn't fit everything on
