My P-III 550 @ 733 Loves to crunch SETI ! I leave it running 24/7 in the background with a blank screen saver that pops up after 45 mins. Im averaging just under 6 hrs per block. I love making my CPU work as basically it just sits around looking stupid, using electricity. Besides, I wanna be the 1 that finds ET http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks for the help. I am planning on overclocking as soon as i get the older bios installed and i will adjust the settings to the screensaver. Thanks again.

This weekend i had downloaded seti@home and had my computer start crunching away on its first data packet. About 22 1/2 hours later, it was done. The data packet size was about 290K. My second packet was about 310K and took about the same amount of time. Here is my setup....
A7V
Duron 650 @ 650
128meg CAS2
IBM 15gig ATA/100

I did not list video and all because i believe it is not relevant to this situation. Anyway, a friend of mine has the same mobo with a T-bird 750 and 256megs of ram and same HD, and his computer completes a packet in 10 hours or so. My computer at work which is a Dell running a celeron 566 with 128megs of ram completes its work in about 10 hours. Is there something wrong with my PC? My temps stay around 45C and i am running bios ver 1004d although i am planning on switching to the 1003 version with the promise drivers that are in 1004. What could be the problem? Thank you for any help.

You need a bit of optimization there:

D700@700 (not to mention overclocked) on A7V takes less than 6 hours per unit.

Raw Mhz are not that important as is the memory speed. But still, at 950 my Duron (with CAS3 PC133) is slower than my other system with Duron @ 900 but CAS2 PC133

Now, it is important how you run the seti client. The fastest way is to run the screensaver but set it to blank as displaying the graphic slows it down dramatically.

I currently crunch units at 5hours (Client version 3.0) so you should be doing something about there (and so should your friend).

NOTE: Since this is only with screensaver, it is obvious that the PC does nothing else at this time except running seti (during the night or breaks)
