I'm about to buy a new machine and have been wrestling with the memory question: 128 or 256MB? I'm not a gamer, don't do any serious number-crunching, and don't usually have too many apps open at a time. Do you think 128MB would be sufficient?

That is definatly enough, according to what you said you would use it for. You may even be able to get away with using 64MB of memory.
Yep, but let's play it safe and get 128MB.

Im gonna go out on a limb here and buck the trend! Go with 256 Megs, I say this for 2 reasons. 1. Memory is REALLY cheap right now. 2.Depending on what OS you are going to have, Win98 or Win ME or Win2000. More RAM will help dramatically. Win2000 will use every bit of RAM that you throw at it and will give you better performance accordingly. Even if you dont do gaming, number crunching or have too many apps open at once, why not be ready in case you do? Thats my .02$'s opinion. Good Luck http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
