After doing some checking on this model of motherboard, I found out something interesting.
I came across the point that PCChips made 5+ different varients of this board. The first few versions 1.x/3.x could only handle 200MHz FSB CPU's, then 5.x could handle 266MHz FSB CPU's. Sometime later on PCChips made a 7.x version that could handle Athlon XP's.
Finding out that my board was a 5.x, I could not run the Athlon XP without constantly getting lockups after the POST or during any type of OS installation.
I tried different types of RAM and that still did not work.
Called my comp dealer numerous and they said "oh..well..yeah...it works with Athlon XP".
Sure maybe at the POST it will boot, but they never attempted an OS installation.
Here is the actual chart on the board revisions:
Motherboard version 1.0 = No AGP port
Motherboard version 1.3 = No AGP port
Motherboard version 1.6 = First version with AGP port
Motherboard version 2.0 = ???
Motherboard version 3.x = Some support 266Mhz but not sure which
Motherboard version 5.0 = First with official support for 266FSB and 4 channel sound codec
Motherboard version 7.x = First to support XP+ CPUs and "Morgan" Duron CPUs
Motherboard version 7.1 = First to support XP+ CPUs and "Morgan" Duron CPUs higher than 1600+
Be warned. If you plan on using an Athlon XP with this mobo, make sure that you have a version 7.x of the board.
