Just a little curious what you boys think about my mod.
I started out with 7 120mm fans humming around my case making it nice and cool.
But the sheer NOISE was a little hard to swallow even with the fans hanging inside using 100% Laytex rubber so I made 2 enclosures for the fans made with 1/16th of an inch steel and lined them with a noise dampening material.
Because the fans are hanging, the only noise was coming from the fan blades themselves
and with these enclosures plus the noise dampening material, the noise has been
reduced well over 60%.
I'm thinking about entering it as a BattleBot http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Thats a GREAT question. Before the enclosures, the sound was very comperable to an oscilating portable fan on medium. Got that in your mind?
Now, its quieter than a computer with 4 80mm fans counted inside. I know this because I have a friend who bought one of those Tornado 2000 cases from 3dcool.com I believe and he's mad as hell http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
That thing looks like a fighter jet from the front view......

Nice. You definitely hit on the best way to reduce noise, by letting the fans hang. I have a couple fans and a blower attached with velcro. They are much more quiet than when I had them attached with screws.

With that much air blowing on the components I would be watchful for wind erosion http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Very nice indeed dude. I like the professional look of it.

LOL I hope no wind damage http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
But the good thing is the sheer amount of air inhibits any dust settling inside the case. The only dust I've found is around the fans themselves.
And thanks Snuffy! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Well,
suprise suprise, seems like I ain't the only one that's fond of fans.
Look at my fans if ya want.
The mobo is running 120Mhz fsb and that k6-2 450 is at 540.
the cpu gets to 41 Celcius in full load, and the mobo to 29 celcius.

LOL!! WOW! Those 80mm fans I take it?
How many you got running around in there?
Very nice.
How did you paint the plastic on the case? I would like to paint mine black as well but I heard spray paint doesn't stick to plastic very well.
Thanks for sharing the pics!
Man I wish I was running 122 fsb to get mine up to 1050 I have to run over 150fsb.

Well, 1st of all, those are indeed 80mm fans in there, a total of 12 in the side, 4 down in front, 2 between the cdrom and writer,
and 2 in the back where ya see that 220V fan.
I spray painted the case, and it stuck good, but maybe that's because it is an AT case, which has no plastic parts at all except for the front. The thing weighs a ton man.
In total I think the system has 20 system fans, and 1 in the PS, 4 fans on cpu and 3 on videocard.
