Clearing the password is very simple just remove the battery from ur mobo and the password is cleared. But all the settings of ur BIOS will be set to is default(nothing serious). So if u an write all the setting on a paper. Remove the battery (jumper can also help) wait for a minute and replace it or do sam with BIOS clearing jumper. dmoltrup 02-19-2002, 12:22 AM The battery is usually connected to a capacitor which is capable of storing a charge. What this means is that simply removing the battery and re-installing it usually isn't enough. Chances are you'll have to wait anywhere from 24 hours to a week, or sometimes more if it's an OEM board for a "business" machine (Like a HP Brio). Volts 02-19-2002, 12:43 AM There is also another small app available on the net, if you are willing to do some searching, which will basically wipe off any password that any cmos has. You will have to download the file and unzip the content into a floppy disk. Boot up the PC using the floppy disk and it should wipe off the password on the cmos. I am not sure if it will cause any unknown problem using this method thought, as i have not try it myself. The best way is usually just to unplug the battery, pull out the power plug and leave it idle like that for about 10 to 15 minutes. That would normally do the trick. killmaster 02-19-2002, 01:35 AM or try these passwords which might work as I think they are the master overide passwords AMI bios cmos AWARD_SW DocEvi1 02-19-2002, 07:14 AM huh. You seemed to state the longest possible way to clear the CMOS. There are a couple of options: 1. As above take the battery out. 2. Find the clear password jumper (only on some mboards like my Compaq DeskPro 100), swop, startup....swop back. 3. Clear the CMOS using the clear CMOS jumper. This can take a couple of forms, firstly my Asus A7V133 has two solder points which you have to short out. Other's have a jumper you can change. The best bet would be to locate your mboard manual and find out what you can do. If you can access windows, a great program for identifying your equipment is sisoft sandra. This will detail exactly what is in your box (assuming it is relativly new that is).
