I have been using Windows 98 since '98, when it came pre-loaded on my computer.

This may sound like a very stupid question, but I was wondering if most programs that are made for Windows would work for Linux if I decided I was sick of such an unstable OS.

Also, what are the Pros and Cons of Linux and Windows?

Is Linux fairly easy to use?

I have a buslink external USB hard-drive, and a Lexar Jumpshot flashcard reader for my Nikon Coolpix digital camera. Could I get the drivers these use (Windows-based I believe) to work with Linux?

Thanks.
Ned

At this time there is not a reliable linux app to run windows programs. Some run within windows emulators, some don't.

linux is so different from windows, asking if it is harder is like comparing apples to oranges. if you were raised in a unix environment, linux is simple and windows is confusing....

basically, I am wondering if it is user-friendly.

how hard would it be for me to get drivers for these programs?

Maybe I should go to a MAC OS. I'm just tired of windows crashing constantly.

well, the new mac OS is unix based.... suit yourself, dude. it is still a microsoft world for most apps, though.

I run win 98se and have a crash every month or two.... about the same reliability as I have on my mac

Okay, say I was to go with all new hardware, and a Microsoft OS. Which MS OS is the best? Most stable?

XP ROCKS..I have only got it to crash 1 time and that was when I yanked some networing files out of it..When I upgraded my comp from 98 there was only 1 piece of HWare that did'nt work and that was a crappy modem.I went to sams club and picked up 24 $ usr modem and life is good

I never had a crash with NT4 or Win2K... Didn't much enjoy either, though. Folks brag on XP, but there are more requests for assistance with XP than any other OS ever released. (Just an observation.)
