I use ATI which has been the most preferred TV tuner for quite awhile, now there are more/newer competitors, still, id give it a look if I were shoppin today, it just works SO good...

I use the Pinnacle PCTV Pro, and Im thoroughly impressed with it.
I havent seen any other TV tuner, but since I got it, 3 other people on my dorm floor got it.

It's also feature packed - Remote, FM Radio, Stereo sound, S-Video out.

I don't know the best, but I know the worst. Do not get the Hauppauge USB wintv. A horrible product that is full of bugs. Cannot get sound to work on 3 dif systems with 4 different units.

Pinnacle PCTV Pro

It works awesome!! If you have ever seen a review say that if "the cable is more than 25ft, the picture begins to distort" - don't beleive it! I was told that and almost didn't get this. I run a 75ft cable - excellent image! The remote is real useful. I have my comp in my bedroom, so I can curl up in bed and watch full screen TV on my 19" monitor (1024x768).

So far, I've recorded 15 music videos on high quality. I need a bigger hard drive now http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. My dad figured out how to hook it up to the VCR. Last night, we watched Independence Day in my room using my awesome stereo system for the first time (for movies anyway). It was the best!!

Speaking of sound, the stereo sound that the PCTV produces is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than regular TV.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask me http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

warthog, after all my training, you forgot how to connect to a vcr. lol

But all my experiences with mine and friends' tv cards, all haven't tried pinnacle) external tv devices didn't work all that great. Had no problems with the internals, even the cheap ones.

Imperion, I was going to do it your way once I got the cables, but it turned out (please don't ask me how http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif) that I could unplug the living room tv from the VCR a;sldkjfa;lsfj;lwejfl;awiejf;alwjasdfasdfawefawef and voila! I can watch movies on my computer but not cable ('til I switch it again). http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Warthog, yea I understand with the cable thing and all.
Sometimes connections act ways that they shouldn't sometimes.
Oh well though, but its cool to be able to watch movies through the computer and receive better sound quality with it.

My cable is 60ft long for my PCTV pro. Its great, great image quality and everything
DONT get a USB tuner. The USB bus isnt wide enough to supply the clearest TV signal.
