i was trying to paint my bay covers blue to match my case, and well it didnt work so well. if i press my finger on it, it leaves a well-defined finger sprint. do i just have to wait a couple days for it to fully dry? the can says wait 24 hours and i waited that long. whats the best way to paint these?

should i just go out and get some more 5 inch bay covers and start over (if in fact that's possible)?

The best paint for doing cases, drive doors, etc is epoxy. It's a little expensive (3-5 $ for a spray can at Wally-world), but dries hard and tough. It's the paint they use on refrigerators, stoves, etc. You can still use your old covers, rub them down with paint thinner, gas works but is dangerous (not recommended), lightly sand them to rough them up. Spray them with a light coat, let dry for a few hours and shoot them again. To paint the case, same thing, but remember to keep a wet edge when spraying. That means spray in an arch, starting close to you and move away on the case, keeping the edge of the painted surface wet as you cover the other non-painted area of the case. For best results, several light coats or better then heavy coats.

Drying time of any paint varies with temp & humidity. Leave 'em sit a couple of days & see what happens. If it still fingerprints, then you've got paint that's not compatible with the plastic.
Unfortunately, it probably won't come off completely w/o destroying the covers. Just get new ones.

Next time, get automotive interior spray. It's made just for plastics.

Since I used to build alot of models, I just primered then painted the front cover and bay covers. The sides and the top I used black marble vinyl contact paper. Works great, takes a long time to put the contact paper on, but it looks like the cover is just painted. No airbubbles or anything.
