I have Windows XP and when first turned on and icon for isp is clicked it sometimes freezes solid. The only way to correct problem is to do a system restore. My computer can work ok and the next time I go to use it will do this freeze act. Anyone had this problem or have suggestions? I can still click Start and get to system Restore even though I get no response on anything else. Any help much appreciated.

What ISP are you using? Sounds like a software issue to me.
Try reinstalling the isp software.

Thanks Ankerson for your prompt response. I am using a DUN. I don't have any of the isps software. My isp is "AccessCheap" and they permit a DUN. Thanks much and if you think of anything else it might be please post again. Thanks again.

I have Xp and it crashes daily, several times, when downloading various files.
I think my problem is that XP does not like overclocking, so I have dropped back and so far , no crashes.
Have you tried to use the wizard to create your dun account.?
Whats your hardware specifications for you pc?
XP is a resource hog like no other.

Thank Ammock for your post. I used Wizard to set up my Dun. I have 10 GB of HD and 256 Mb of Ram. I have tried in vain to find a new Computer with Windows ME. I am considering a Reinstall of XP. Do you think I would have problems doing this? I have the Disks tha came with the Computer. Thanks again.

Have you went to the Windows update site and got all the updates?

Experiences vary, never had any issues with XP at all.

XP has problems with "older" hardware which yours is, yes?. That does not mean you can't get round it. XP would not work with my CDR or with Ahead Nero or any other burning software that I had. So, once I had gathered up all available updates etc I got it to work, although it now takes twice as long to burn a cd.
Your problem is your network configuration. Do you have a NIC in there? But the best advice so far from Anker, if you can get to it, is to upgrade XP from the MS website, before anything else.
I must say, apart from being totally p*ssed of with XP, becuase WIN2K was an absolute joy, it does install dun and nics with ease.
If its not too much hassle, try a complete reinstall of XP and try again, paying particular attention to any incompatibilty issues it raises.

Thanks for the responses. I have new Notebook with XP. I downloaded some updates with little results. When computer doesn't freeze it takes some 90 seconds for the dialup menu to pop up. I would reinstall XP if I knew how. I have the original Disks that came with computer but can't figure out how to use them. I tried but couldn't figger out how. I placed disk one in CD drive but it wouldn't run. any help appreciated.

I do know that I needed at least 256 meg to keep XP on my cheapie HP replacement from exhausting resources and gobbling up memory. When I initiate XP, I need to wait at least 5 minutes for the system to settle down. I run RRAM to monitor the system and have found that virtually no memory is available for the first 2 minutes. Everything seems to be operating out of swapfile. After that, only about 104meg is continually dependable even after auto-clearing memory with RRAM. The taskbar stuff seems to have very little effect on consumption. I have never run a total resources check, but I suspect that swapfile is creating a log jam. Unstable memory allocation really confuses cache settings. My HP is with my son in college right now, so I cannot check.
One would think from Microsoft's Home page that nothing but Xp is acceptable anymore. It definitely has conflicts with many programs and hardware.
