Between the perforance range of the Geforce2 gts/pro/ti/ultra and GF3 series, which other video cards come close or have similar performance as these?

The Radeon series offers roughly comparable performance to the Geforce cards.

The 7500 competes against the Gf2 series cards and the 8500 against the Gf3's.

Heres a Good chart I made:

Low Budget Cards:

GeForce 256 ($50-100)
Kyro ($20-50)
Voodoo 4 ($40-80)
Radeon LE and VE ($30-60)
GeForce MX and MX200 ($30-60)
Savage 2000 ($20-40)

High-low end Budget Cards:

Voodoo 5 5500 ($40-100)
GeForce 2 MX400 ($40-70)
GeForce 2 GTS ($40-80)
Radeon 7000 ($40-70)
Radeon 7200 ($50-80)

Mainstream-Performance Cards:

GeForce 2 Pro/Ti/Ultra ($70-150)
Kyro II 4500 ($50-70)
Radeon 7500 ($80-120)
GeForce 4 MX 420, 440, and 460 ($100-170)

High Mainstream-performance cards:

GeForce 3 Ti 200 ($130-170)
GeForce 3 ($180-220)
Kyro II 4800 (Yet to be released) ($70-99)

Top of the Line Cards:

GeForce 3 Ti 500 ($225-250)
Radeon 8500 ($170-200)
GeForce 4 Ti 4200 (Yet to be released) ($175-200)

Ultra Top of the Line cards:

GeForce 4 Ti 4600 ($300-400)
GeForce 4 Ti 4400 ($250-325)
Radeon R300 (Yet to be released or announced, but common sense tells it should be here.) ($225-300)
Kyro III (Same as R300) ($150-250)

______________

Hope this chart helps, peace!

I've heard some good things about the kyro II 4500, mainly how cpu speed effect's its performance, how does it perform benchmark and fps wise to these cards?

GeForce 2 Pro/Ti/Ultra ($70-150)
Radeon 7500 ($80-120)
GeForce 4 MX 420, 440, and 460 ($100-170)

I'll probably get a radeon 8500, are they really faster than the gf3 series?

As long as you have a Ghz+ system, the Kyro II is right up there with the GF2 Ti in High Resolution 32bit gaming.

If you had this card, the opt. setting for most games would be something like this.

1024x768x32 Max Detail with Trilinear On.

Or even 800x600x32 4x FSAA with Trilinear On.

For $60 bucks this card tramples anything within it's price range.

It's no GeForce 3, but it can hang with just about any GeForce 2, even the Ultra in a couple of cases. (Depending on game).

____

As for the Radeon 8500, this is a beat of a card, level to level it offers same performance as the GF3 Ti 500 but with a few more features and less expensive.

Pound for Pound if your looking for a really fast yet cheap card and have the CPU to back, the Kyro II will be plenty.

If you have the money for say a $200 card, then the Radeon 8500 will hold you over awhile to come.

I would say the radeon 7000 and 7200 has a performance rank lower than the LE. reason is :
7000 comes with DDR and a 64bit processor (not even a GPU!)
7200 comes with SDR but has 128bit GPU. however SDR is it's downfall.
Radeon DDR/LE comes with DDR and 128bit GPU. these cards in high res 32bits trounces mx400 and matches geforce 2 GTS nicely.

Thanks for the replies. Another question, what's DVI? I don't remember seeing DVI in the GF cards.

I think it's Dual Head or TV In/Out version, might have to wait for others that know.

Digital Video "Interface?"

I can't remember what the I stands for but it is a Digital output for flat panels. The idea is for it to eventually replace the standard VGA connector as it has both analog and digital video out connectors.

The cards that compare mainly are the ATI Radeon, the Kyro II series and the Voodoo 5 5500.

All these cards show similar performance and visual quality.

*Coughs very badly*

Voodoo 5 5500 can't touch the Kyro II or Radeon for the matter.

Here is a realistic standoff for say a Athlon T-bird 1.2Ghz Machine. (High Resolution 32bit Gaming)

Kyro II = GeForce 2 Ti (Has Best FSAA Performance)

Radeon LE = GeForce 2 GTS(Best 2d image quality)

Voodoo 5 5500 = GeForce 2 MX400 (Best 3d image quality...barly)

Upon benchmarks around the web and my experence with Kyro and Voodoo, I can safely say this is what these boards perform to.

For 3d visuals, they all look about the same with the Voodoo slightly edging out. They all offer splended image quality.
